just DONT GO!!!!! The place is dirty, noisy, no bath, disgusting to walk barefoot....worthy to spend more money in a decent place. Also, the location is bad. Close to the main train station but there is nothing during the evening. HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!
It was super peak period at Kyoto during my trip there. Out of the 20 over hostels, Toji-An was the only 2 hostels that had vacancy. The other one has the same terrible 'review' as Toji-An. We picked Toji-An for its good location. We thought, how bad could it be. We were later proven to be very wrong.

We booked this guest house from its web site but when we arrived there, we were shocked. As we were entering the wooden house, the noren (the Japanese cloth pinned at the upper side of the door frame) was dirty and torn.
We were greeted by a sleepy guy. And when we were walking in, the hallway smelled like toilet...
