We stayer at the annex, very nice and clean, and location is great, Eimi was really nice ( I loved her dog BTW), not fancy place at all but really good. Also she was very helpfull and gave us lots of indications to travel, we also bought some yukatas at a really good price! I will recommend this place if... More

My husband and I along with another couple stayed here in early April. I chose Hanakiya because of the reviews and its proximity to Kiyomizudera, which is my favorite temple in all of Japan as of our previous trip to Kyoto in 2010. Upon our arrival, we had just gotten to the entrance when the owner poked her head out... More

This hostel/inn/minshuku is a traditional Japanese home. We slept on the floor on futons on tatami floors. The inn is just down a flight of stairs where the tourist buses drop people off for Kiyomizu temple and five minutes walk to a city bus stop. Bathrooms are shared but there are enough to go around. The shower is delightful and... More

I liked the design of the guesthouse - very Japanese. However, the heater was not working very well for winter and my friend and I were freezing! Futons were also a bit thin. Staff was very nice though and got us pastries for breakfast. Location was also very good and we rented kimonos nearby to wear and take photos in... More

We stayed 2 persons for 4 nights in july, while it was very hot. Fortunately there was air-con in the room, which worked perfectly. We stayed in the annex building on the 2nd floor with a view to the road outside. It is a very quiet alley, however the windows are partly made of paper, which makes it very easy... More

We loved our stay at Hanakiya. We stayed in the annexe, our room was huge compared to any of the other hotels we have been to in Japan. The common room is a great place to chat with the other guests over a cup of green tea, and there is a free pc and free WiFi. The shared bathrooms are... More

I stayed at Hanakiya Inn for 4 days or so last year in the autumn. I booked via Hostelworld, not quite knowing what to expect. The place was fabulous - traditional Japanese tatami rooms, clean, quiet, incredible location, and the most friendly hosts you can imagine, giving a welcoming cup of tea on arrival, and even a small gift when... The staff is very friendly and helpful with very good English. The size of the room is decent and it is a nice experience to sleep on tatami. The location is great - very close to kiyomizu temple. just walk out in the morning and you would be spoilt with breakfast choice e.g. steamed bun The room and bathroom are... More

We had a great stay at Hanakiya. We were housed in the annex and the friendly owner walked us over there. She gave us maps with directions of how to get the bus, rents bikes, get to the supermarket and all the main attractions of the old town. She was always available if we had any questions and was unfailingly... More

If you are looking to stay at a traditional style place in Kyoto without the cost this is the joint. It's impeccably clean with super modern Japanese bathrooms, includes a small breakfast and is located near stores, restaurants and the Kiyomizudera Temple. The owner is super friendly and very helpful. Love this place!
