We had a great stay at Maifukan Hotel, we stayed at a Japanese Style room which was very comfortable and spacious, we just loved it. We were traveling with a 9 month old baby so the extra space was a great plus since he was able to crawl and wander around the room at his will. Bathroom was great and... More

This hotel is not cheap but overall it is a good standard. It's located in the Gion area of Kyoto with quick walking access to the bustling narrow streets, where traditonally the Geisha's would have been located. The highlight of this area is the Kennin-Ji Rinzai Zen temple, a short walk away - a stunning place and not too tourist... More

Three stars max, and a major disappointment re: authentic Japanese experience. I stayed with a family (three persons altogether) in a Japanese-style room, paying something like $330 a night. No breakfast included, no restaurant on the property, go find one in town. No pool, no gym, no folksy looks, apart from the tatami-clad room with mattresses on the floor. I... More

This hotel is in a great location - a beautiful quiet street a few minutes walk from the main Gion area. We explored south one day taking a bus to Sanjussangendo Temple and then walking back exploring highlights on the way. The next day we went north starting at the Silver Pavillion and walking back. The staff are wonderful -... More

Maifukan is a great place to stay when doing some sightseeing in Kyoto. The location in Gion is great and is within very close walking distance to various temples and restaurants. I referred to as a Hybrid experience because from the outside it looks like a modern boutique hotel. However you have the option which I did take to stay... More

I stayed at Maifukan Feb. 2-3, 2011. My room was great--big for Japan, great bed, good-sized bathroom (for Japan), nicely decorated. Beautiful rooftop terrace to use when the weather is good. Coin laundry close by is open during the day. Several nice restaurants in the area. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I speak Japanese, so I can't comment... More

We had a Japanese style room of about 8 jo (x 1,6 = sqm), clean, new and nice. Nice bathroom and washlet toilet. Fridge with 2 bottles of water every day, water cattle to boil water in. With a convenient store on the ground floor, it`s been easy to do self-catering. Many great sights and the huge Maruyama Park accessable... More
