There was really nothing wrong with the place, we booked two ensuite rooms with the tatami floors and futon beds. Bit out of the way but great stay nonetheless. Clean, lovely, warm rooms nice onsen, great bathrooms.

amazing ryokan in Kyoto that provides a true Japanese experience. oh yes ! taste our onsen !! like a true japanese ! (you have also a private badroom but the onsen in the lower floor is a great experience ! ) the room was very clean, and the location was good

Sawaya Honten is an amazing ryokan in Kyoto that provides a true Japanese experience. I stayed there for four nights with my girlfriend and enjoyed every minute of it. We stayed at this ryokan recently and were quietly surprised at how good it was. The owner speaks enough english to help you get around and it was about 20 mins from JR Kyoto station on the 206 bus.
