i totally disagree with the earlier traveler. i actually stayed during cherry blossom time in 2010 so it was hard to find an available ryokan last minute. It was conveniently located and within walking distance of so many places (loved the manga museum). For its price, it gave the authentic experience with beautiful garden view for my room. The food... I (Swiss living in Singapore with extensive Asia traveling experience) stayed at the Nissho Besso Ryokan (traditional Japanese Guesthouse) for 1 night with my wife and 20 months old child, extending a business trip I had in Kobe.
