We spent some three nights with our two children and a friend, my wife arrived before I did and called me to say that she landed in "doll house". The location is remarkable, in the heart of Kyoto, alongside a small river in a quiet street. This service was spectacular, with attention to every detail and intelligence in the response... More

There is a reason why Shiraume has such an esteemed reputation amongst the ryokan of Kyoto. It's the fantastic location. It's the delightfully decorated and spotlessly clean traditional rooms. It's the careful attention to every tiny detail. Most of all, though, it's the gracious, attentive service from Tomoko and her staff which outshines even the finest big-city hotels. From the... More

If you've decided that you want the ryokan experience while in Kyoto then this really has to be on your list of possibles. Yes, it's expensive (all the good ryokans are) but once you've done it you'll understand why. The level of service that Tomoko-san and her team of ladies provide their guests is quite extraordinary. Shiraume has to be... More

All the previous reviews paint the picture. Shiraume is lovely. We had 2 rooms for one night, both were spacious and contained lots of extras like a coffee machine, tv and dvd player, underfloor heating etc. Our room had an attached bathroom which was very nice. My father had to book one of the 2 communal bathrooms for his wash,... More

The reviews really speak for themselves with this picture perfect ryokan. The old adage, you get what you pay for is very true. This place isn't cheap to stay at but it is worth every Penney and if you can save a few dollars on other locations to experience this place, I suggest you do. If you love Japanese culture... More

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in January and seriously loved it - we echo everything written by previous reviewers and more. We initially thought this would be a once in a lifetime visit but we are already planning to return next year to once again enjoy this wonderful ryokan. Thank you to Tomoko and her all her... More

I tried to book this ryokan for my May stay. Unfortuantely this place is fully booked. Still, I would like to give a review on the service quality . The owner kindly replied my booking request, saying it is full, and sametime, she provided quite a few good names for my reference. I then asked her some questions on different... More

My husband and I were on our first time trip to Japan and therefore decided to stop over for 1 night in Kyoto. We did not regret our move even though we had to move our luggage from Osaka and then to Tokyo after 1 night in Kyoto. It's definitely the best stay in Japan. Although its pricey but it's... More

We stayed at the top floor, 4 of us in this amazing room with 2 modern toilet ( the one with warm seats and rinse and dry function) and one bathroom with the wooden bath and shower facility. Breakfast was the best we had during our 10 day trips in jap. We wish we could have dinner here as well.... More
