Laban Rata doesn't have a hot shower for their guests and the water was freezing cold. As a compensation, the room, bed and shower place are clean and none of us got bitten by any (bed) bugs. Also they have got a great view of the mountain and moreover, you are able to enjoy the view over warm meals and... More

After trekking for 5 hours up the mountain through Timpohon trail in torrential rain, Laban Rata beckoned us with hot tea and coffee. We were lucky in a way as our accommodation (Waras Hut) is the first building you see after getting off the trail. My review will consists of Waras Hut and Laban Rata main building. Waras Hut: It... Given the long trek up the mountain from the park gates, any place to stay would be a very welcoming sight. Having said that, the accommodations at Laban Rata are very decent, if you consider that every item you see / touch / eat has been labouriously carried up the mountain by the indefatiguable porters. (we even saw one carrying... More

We spend a night there before we went to the top of Mt. Kinabalu. The beds are simple and basic, but I didn't expect something more on this altitude. But we were surprised of the food it was served!!! Very GOOD! Delicious!

Reaching the Laban Rata is an achievement because you have either hike 8km (Mesilau Trail) or 6km (Timpohon Trail). Seeing this Yellow Hut is like a heaven for you! The resthouse is like a Dorm where room contains 6-10 double decker beds. No hot water available there, hence, showering up at the mountain at below 10 degree Celsius is absolutely... More

We arrived at Laban Rata in good time as the only people in our group was me and my girlfriend. The cafe/restaurant was large with a great views down to the valley and a little balcony. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we could not see much, but we sat and drank a coffee with other trekkers. All the prices for... More

We had booked 2 private rooms, but were offered 1 large room when we got there. As our group consisted of my 3 children and myself, we decided to stay together. Only realised our mistake when we were trying to sleep later that night! Buttercup 3 is the only room at ground level, and is located next to the public... More

By some weird streak of luck and generosity, we ended up in the Buttercup 1 room, a real bedroom! No hot water, apparently some issues with repairs at altitude. Had a really cold shower, although water didn't drain that great! View was awesome. Food was really good, and much better than expected. Beds were a welcome relief. Glad I wasn't... More

Laban Rata host the guest before the they were pushed the next morning to the top. A great pit stop. Take all the food & drinks untill 2.30am you'll wake up to start climbing up. With just a head lamp all the climbers need to pursue the chill environment to the top. The hotel was lovely & great surrounding view.... More

Laban Rata is at "base camp" before the final ascent of Mt Kinabalu, so although it is a basic trekking hostel, the fact that anything so developed exists at all in this location is remarkable. No frills, but no problems either. Food was decent. Rooms were comfortable if not luxurious. It is very expensive to stay there for the facilities,... More
