I withdrew my original review as I felt that I had been a bit unfair to all the lovely staff we have encountered at this hotel. It is a lovely place, with employees (apart from one) who do try hard to please despite some lacking in knowledge. Unfortunately we happened upon a snivelling receptionist on our arrival who lacked customer... More

I really enjoyed this hotel. It is very much an artsy boutique hotel, which I loved. We got placed in the third floor room which had a duplex/ loft style set up (bedroom upstairs, living room with large ceilings). VERY authentic. Nice art pieces, stained glass, balcony. It was a spacious room with a jacuzzi in the bed room. Breakfast... More

Stayed for a short weekend getaway with my boyfriend. I was really excited at first because the room had a jacuzzi. We paid Rm400 for the room. However the room is small (probably because its the cheapest room) and the jacuzzi is tiny. Not suited for two. There was rather large dried pee stain on the toilet seat. Really disgusting.... More

We could not fault this hotel. The service was professional but personalised at the same time. Our room was a Hutton without balcony and was absolutely delightful. The four poster bed was extremely comfortable and the linens and bedding or a very high quality. Our beautiful stained glass, shuttered windows looked out onto the garden area. The breakfast room/restaurant was... More

This is truly an exceptional hotel. The hotel is set on the crossroads of two busyish roads within walking distance of Georgetown. The staff are extremely friendly and the customer services is as you would expect in 5* hotels. Breakfast is plentiful and of a high quality. The juices for example actually taste of the fruit not watered down as... More

Decor in the rooms (hutton) and generally in the hotel was excellent with beautiful Chinese antique style furniture mixed with modern pieces. The stained glass was beautiful in the windows but for the bathroom doors not really practical as large portions were clear glass so didn't offer much privacy. The hotel information book was very thoughtful detailing the renovation process... More

Went here on advise of a friend and it was worth while! We booked the Clarke Terrace which suits 4 adults in 2 separate bedrooms. Downstairs a beautiful living area and even a little kitchen, outside a jacuzzi which was superb. Upstairs 2 rooms, 1 with twin beds and bathroom with shower, 1 with kingsize bed and bathroom with 2... More

We stayed at the Penaga for 3 nights with our two year old son. The room was spotless and featured many beautiful touches - furniture with lots of personality, great amenities and a nice balcony. The garden and the property were very well kept. The staff was friendly and the hotel had a very cozy library and a nice bar/dining... More

We just loved our room from the moment we walked through the door. It was large and beautifully decorated and furnished. According to the hotel, the furniture are contemporary reconstructions made in China from remnants of old furniture. Pendant lights, Venetian mirrors and stained glass were sourced from Indonesia. Roof tiles were salvaged from demolished buildings in Penang, and timber... More

Great hotel, good breakfast and great staff who were very helpful. Good base for exploring Georgetown. The room was spacious and comfortable. The only downside was traffic noise, but I am sure it will be ifxed by extra glazing on the windows. Overall an excellent hotel.
