We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom and toilet for one night. The lodgings were very new and comfortable, and the western-style shower/toilet was clean. About a 8 minute walk from the JR and Kintetsu stations. Fast wifi is available for free, and the owner, Jun Nakata, was a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!

If arriving by rail at Nara Station, pause briefly at the Station Information centre where the friendly ladies will point you in the right direction for this Japanese style B & B, and happily supply you with a map of Nara; they also offer the services of a free English speaking guide for touring Nara, if required (this can be... We spent two nights at Nakata B&B. The owner immediately offered us some cold ice tea we could drink while checking in and then he told us that there was a candle festival that evening. He had maps and was very helpful in pointing out where things were and where was best to view the candle festival. The rooms were... More

Nice place overall. Looks like it was recently remodeled (bit of a lacquer smell in the rooms). Location in Nara is good - everything within walking distance (but thats just about anywhere in Nara). Bathroom and shower are really nice. Owner was a nice fellow who gave good advice on activities. The price is a little higher than others but... More

This place was an enjoyable stop on our trip to Nara. It was a welcome break from all the random hostels I was staying at. This place was clean, convenient and moderately priced. It's about a ten minute walk from the JR station. It was a straight shot and the tourism office knew exactly where it was. The location is... More

Located in a backstreet, this ryokan can be tricky to find. Out of the station, turn right and cross at the traffic lights and keep walking down a smallish street until you reach a T-intersection, where the ryokan is located. The owner is helpful (sometimes over-helpful and chatty). The common living area is pleasant with a plasma TV, CD player... More

Stayed overnight in Nara at this very friendly ryokan. It's very convenient to the train station, the main sightseeing places, restaurants and shopping - all walkable. Mr Nakata was so accommodating that he really made our stay memorable vs. just another stop on our trip (e.g., after recommending a delivery service for our baggage, he ended up stopping in at... Nakata B&B has a very simple website (http://www16.ocn.ne.jp/~nakatabb/egtoppage.html). The reviews on Tripadvisor.com were positive. The photos of the rooms looked good. The B&B was simple, clean and inexpensive. Six weeks prior to by trip to Japan, I booked a room at this simple B&B, knowing full well that I wanted to visit Nara. Even though I was 99% certain that... More

Nakata B&B looks very Japanese with well sized rooms with tatami mats, lots of wood and the futons stored in the cupboard during the day. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, providing maps, info on transport and answering all the questions we had. The location is very good, close to both train stations and to the main street for... More
