We spent two nights at the Annex Turtle Hotori An and thoroughly enjoyed it! We caught the JR train from Tokyo in the morning. Once we arrived in Nikko we walked from the JR railway station over to the Tobu railway station to buy a Tobu bus ticket (although it looked like we could have actually bought one from the... More

We stayed for one night with our daughters aged 3 and 1. The traditional bedding, onsen and atmospheric surroundings made for a fabulous stay. Even with pretty miserable weather. A short walk along the river brings you to beautiful statues bedecked in red hats and scarves. Traditionally they represent lost children. Very moving to see these, and the small offerings... More

we stayed one night/2 days in nikko -saturday night, but unfortunately was very rainy that weekend. the inn is a very good and affordable stay (comparing to other prices seen in that area) and it also has a private onsen (you put the door sign to "occupied" and can stay for 20 mins- which is enough, taking into account that... From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff made us welcome and at home. Our room was well proportioned and spotlessly clean with a wonderfully comfortable futon. The heater in the room kept us nice a snug (it was snowing heavily when we visited). The inn is in a great location to visit the wonderful sights... More

Just a short walk from world heritage sites in Nikko, this little B&B is a gem! The Fukuda-sans are super friendly, speak many languages (including good english), and run a wonderful little Japanese style inn in the Japan Inn Group family. The inn is located next to a river in a quiet residential area. The rooms are inexpensive, spacious, and... More

Excellent accommodation in Nikko. Rooms are fairly simple, bit spotlessly clean and with great futons and good heating. As others have said, one of the main drawcards here is the location near the Kanmangafuchi Abyss and the two main shrines and temple - about 10 minutes walk. Also, the private onsen is excellent. Great views and pretty nicely fitted out.... More

Traveling solo in Nikko. It's a quick taxi ride to the annex ( did not use public transport). The room was quite large, and the staff spoke very good English, which was great, because my Japanese is terrible. I loved this place- the onsen is private, and overlooks the river. Lovely walk to the gorge, and very close to the... More

A little out of the center of town but an easy walk from one end of the shrine. Only a few steps to a beautiful walking path along the gorge. Also very much enjoyed the private onsen in the hotel. I would also recommend the public onsen at the end of the path about 1.5 k walk.

Arrived on a cold November night but did not stay. Scruffy, edging on dirty. Unwelcoming host. Stark empty room with two mattresses on the floor - wreaked of paraffin and damp. (I am an asthmatic). Told no food weekend. Breakfast possible at a price. Having stayed in a wonderful 'slightly worn at the edges' Japanese style hotel in Kyoto we... More

Extraordinary and very romantic: (1) see and hear rushing river water just outside our room; (2) the inn’s on-property onsen, where we could employ the "Occupied" sign and enjoy the bath privately. Opening the window, gazing down at the river, feeling the cool breeze while soaking in steamy water together....YES! (3) Cozy-warm room, comfy futons, nicely adequate 1,000-yen breakfast. One...
