The people who say this hotel is a bit tired, isolated, the restaurants are expensive etc., all are correct. But I still really enjoyed my stay here. I spent three nights and four days at the Palace Hotel Hakone with my wife and 3-year old daughter and we had a fantastic time. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the onsen... More

Agree with the consensus below about the food. The restuarants are very expensive and there is nothing else nearby. But this situation is not unique to this one hotel, I think that is what Hakone is like. It is very spread out with no real town centre. There is a bit of a shopping/dining strip near the train station, we... More

In most respects this is a wonderful hotel. By Japanese standards the rooms are very large and modern. The surrounding area in the Mt Fuji National Park is an area of outstanding beauty. The one problem with this hotel is its isolation. There is nowhere nearby to eat, drink or shop. The hotel takes advantage of this. The prices in... More

I loved this hotel and the surrounding area. We stayed here in November 2010 for 2 nights. There are some great views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi from the hotel. The general area is very hilly and all covered in trees. Hotel: The rooms were a decent size and as mentioned had great views. The staff spoke very good... More

Hakone and Lake Ashi is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and I have been to a lot of places. We stayed at hostels through out Japan so arriving at the palace literally was like arriving at heaven. The view of Mt Fuji and Lake Ashi is remarkable. The road to the palace is dotted with... More

I was thrilled to be able to see Mt Fuji from my window (sideways)...the room was very large and so was the bathroom. The "western" food restaurant was mobbed and unavailable for hours at dinner time, so we went to the Japanese restaurant which served many courses with a lot of raw fish dishes. Very, very expensive, about $100 per... More

Great big room for 3 adults and tremendous onsen hot spring bathing. Lovely view over surrounding countryside from rooms. BUT no where to go for dinner except the inhouse restaurant which was very expensive and very ordinary. The continental breakfast was included in the tariff but nothing to rave about at all. The position is excellent right near the bus... More

We stayed here for one night with our tour group. Our room was large, with twin beds, a desk and chair, loveseat, mini-fridge and safe. The beds were comfortable. and there was good lighting. Yukatas (Japanese kimonos) and short kimonos were supplied, as well as slippers. There was a flat-screen TV, on which we could find no English-language broadcasts, a... More

My fiance and I spent 1 night at this hotel and it was absolutely wonderful. We booked this hotel because it is right in the middle of the Hakone Round Course. The location was very accessible; there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. Included in the price is a free breakfast. You can choose between an... More

The hotel only had one restaurant and the coffee shop open (the bar and second restaurant were closed)and as it is a way out of the main area this was a problem. It was very expensive to eat and drink and the facilities were also over priced. As the weather wasn't great when we were there we sadly didn't get... More
