Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for two nights and came in with no booking and late enough in the evening. Clean, convenient and very very near the train station without any loud noise coming from the station. Also very reasonable for two sharing and the bed was more than big enough for the two of us.

It takes 3 minutes walking from Okayama station to the hotel. We can easily find the blue colored signboard '東横イン' at the station. It costs less than 6000JPY including overnight stay, ammenity goods and buffet style simple breakfast.

This is the newer of the two Okayama station Toyoko Inns. It's a touch more expensive (but still very cheap) and slightly closer to the train station; just a five minute walk and easy to spot if you exit right after the Shinkansen gates. The good thing about this hotel chain is that you know what you'll get, no bad surprise. Your room will be small, but comfy, for a reasonnable price. Free internet access & breakfast. This one is 2 minutes walk from the station, which is good if you travel by JR (i.e. Miyajima, Himeji, ...). Okayama is a very laid back...
