I had spent a considerable time researching places to stay in or near the Matobo hills- a place loved by my husband on our honeymoon 30 years earlier. I eventually found Big Cave Camp on a site. The site showed it to be similar to the other places on offer in the area but cheaper. I contacted them directly by... More

Our guide, Pierre Duval, from BushBaby Safaris, had scouted Zimbabwe before our trip and wanted to try this facility. We were a little puzzled when the gps had us turn into a small parking area with a sign that said "New Visitors! Please hoot on arrival". Pierre tapped the horn a couple of times and soon there was an answering... More

Cough of a leopard, bark of a baboon or the scurry of an elephant shrew. These are the sights and sounds you may experience at this fabulous camp set on a granite "dwala" in the Matobo Hills. We stayed in the delightful honeymoon suit looking out over the valley. This camp is African bush at it's best! The food and service... More

We had an excellent visit in May last year. Wonderful nature and surroundings. A guide took us on a walking safari where we had the opportunity to see rhinos, monkeys, giraffes and hippos. The history of Matopas is just very interesting and fascinating. First class service and food at the lodge. Looking forward to my next trip to Big Cave,... More

On one of my many visits to Bulawayo a good friend and I decided to spend the night at Big Cave Lodge. Just a short 45 minute drive from town and you are on another planet. The lodge itself is wonderful, well designed and built into the Matobo Hills environment. Friendly staff, a good meal and there you have it.... More

Our host Dave was a gentleman and a great story teller. He and his guides were very knowledgeable. From the ancient cave paintings to the Big Five we saw it all! Kid friendly , calm , relaxing , great rock pool, stunning views. We'll be back. Richard Thompson , USA

I have had the great privilege to have stayed at The Big Cave a number of times over many years. That incredible ride up the kopje (hill) to the lodge just begins that incredible journey into nature. A wonder how these lodges were built up among the rocks and trees, to fit in with the natural beauty of the Matopas.... More

Big Cave Lodge was a highlight of my trip. The lodge is nestled into it's surroundings giving you the ultimate experience of the mountains with it's rocks, the wildlife, and the most incredible birdlife of the area. The hikes and game drives with the guide was well worth it, making one appreciate the diversity of the culture of the area.... More

Having read in The Getaway Magazine that the Big Cave Camp is ranked one of the 15 best safari lodges in Africa, I needed to check this out. The magazine is right. It probably is THE best camp in Africa overall, when considering all relevant factors: service, accessability, room standards, food, affordability, nature and wildlife. It is somewhat of a... More

We were a group of five traveling from Sweden to celebrate a friends birthday with some fun activities. Most of us had done trips before to African destinations over the years, so we had high expectations and they were more than met. Big Cave Lodge is located 40 minutes by car from Bulawayo. We had arranged with the lodge to... More
