Nestled atop Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain is this understated family hotel. Understated, because one wouldn't think it is as good as it was, being an older property. Once inside, the central atrium looks impressive enough to make you think otherwise. There are plenty of parking spaces in front. The rooms are large, clean, and well appointed, with all the usual amenities. The balconies are relatively small, but some of them boast views of the city below, overlooking the pool in front. If you have the choice when booking, do request rooms with "city view" over "golf view," which only overlook the mini golf course. The pool is the big surprise! It is the draw that brings families together. Boasting some water slides, a large children's pool area, and a pool bar for snacks and refreshments, this pool has everything a family needs to spend hours in together. There are alert pool guards to monitor what's going on, be it children left unattended, someone in a spot of trouble in the water, or just generally keeping a bit of discipline in case of any unseemly behaviour. In other words, it felt like a safe place to have some healthy family fun. There's also a gym, a squash court, mini golf, and a pool table to use either for free or at a very nominal rate. The included breakfast was a fairly comprehensive spread. There was even a live cooking station for eggs done to order. It was quite satisfying, both in quality and the variety that the buffet offered. Of course, being a 4-star property, ala carte prices are at those levels, so one needs to be realistic about that fact when ordering food from room service or at restaurants. Remember, outside of the hotel on the top of Jebel Hafeet, there are only two restaurants, and one was closed for renovation when we visited. So carry all your essentials, like water, juices, and snacks, and plan to drive down to Al Ain for other meals if you are not going to be using the hotel restaurants. That said, the amenities counter in the room had an electric kettle and a few sachets of black and green teas, coffee, and creamer. There was also a mini bar in case you wanted to bring in water and beverages and keep them cool in the room. We were upgraded to a superior room, so I am not sure if all rooms have these. The bathrooms have shower gel and shampoo in pump-action bottles instead of individually wrapped soap. That was way easier to use, less messy, and kept waste to a minimum. They also come with a shaving mirror and hair dryer. The bath area is separate from the toilet and bidet. The queen bed was large enough for two adults and a child or two. We asked for an extra mattress for our 14-year-old, which came at a nominal rate of only Dhs 25 extra. At the checkout, they were gracious enough to throw that in for free. Finally, the staff were generally very helpful, courteous, and unobtrusive. A big shout out to Manish Tiwari, the Front Office supervisor, and his team for making our stay stress-free and accommodating.…
