Location is good. Hotel ambiance is good. Rooms were very clean and had a balcony overlooking the sea, this scenery was really good. Disadvantage was no TV. Other disadvantage was that the bed was not a double bed, but was 2 separate beds kept next to each other with a very thick joint in between. Food was god and service... More

The Closenberg Hotel as the previous reviewers have mention has an excellent almost fort like location overlooking the Rumasala mountains. As you enter the car park area you welcomed by a haikuesque view of the sea and the mountains in its backdrop, as well as some fascinating Doom palms. Ernest Haeckel the famed evolutionary biologist praised the Doom palms, the... More

We are thrilled that you took such an interest in the Closenberg's rich heritage and had a truly genuine experience. Captain Bayley and his wife Marina who built the villa in 1860 were great botany enthusiasts, we thus hope to maintain this aspect of the place. We look forward to welcoming you again! More

We (3 adults) stayed 2 nights at the Closenberg which has a spectacular location. It is an old colonial mansion and the public areas are just beautiful. The room, however, was small for 3 adults, the bathroom had no shower gel, not enough soap, and no free mineral water is provided (normally standard in Lanka). A/C blew right into our... More

Our stay in this hotel was an authentic cultural experience. The furnishings of the rooms and the dining area were genuinely old, and well preserved. Nothing was tacky about the decor. The staff, dressed in their immaculate white shirts and ties, served us tea on period trays, without our asking. They were very helpful in directing us to various sites... More

I stayed at Closenberg for 3 nights, in september 2010, while I was on a business trip in the South of Sri Lanka. The Hotel definitely proved to be a good place to relax after a day of meetings/visiting sites under the sri lankan sun. It has plenaty of open space in the various terraces and garden, which make it... More

This was our second visit to Closenberg. My first visit was on august 2010 with my wife. This time, we were three..! We spent 2 days and 1 night at Closenburg with our 4 month old baby boy..and had a great time. After our first visit, I had made some contacts at the hotel and booking was not an issue.... More

We just had our sister’s wedding in Closenburg Hotel. The hotel and it's staff exceeded our expectations by miles! The hall was very well prepared, the staff were looking our guests from start to finish and we could not ask for more! The staff were amazing, they were well prepared with everything and we felt we did not have to... More

I stayed at Closenberg for a few nights last August and had nothing but a wonderful experience. The building itself is incredibly impressive. It's an old colonial mansion with all of its grandeur preserved from when it was first built over a hundred years ago. Staying there is a bit like being in a time capsule that takes you right... We are glad that you enjoyed the ambience and heritage of Closenberg. We are also thrilled that you loved the curry. We take pride in it since Closenberg uses the traditional method of wood fire cooking to give it that Southern Sri Lankan country flavor. Always be welcome! More

Firstly Closenberg's location in itself it something truly unique. Theres nothing like enjoying your morning coffee overlooking the lovely unawatuna bay :) The rice and curry is probably one of the best I've had in the city, very authentic and flavorful. Definitely a must have for all visitors, they are more than willing to make it less spicy upon request.... More
