The Ajay Guest House or Palace on the Steps (same complex) is perfectly situated on the river at Ranamahal Ghat. I would suggest u do some planning and book ahead. The state of the rooms and unfriendly service makes your stay feel over priced and unreasonable. The upside is the view of the Ganges from the balcony. Shop around for better location and value elsewhere.

I stayed at Palace on Steps for 3 nights with my family. We asked for taxi from the airport to the hotel. They arranged everything for us since they picked us up at the airport.
