I stayed in Eden Garden hotel for 6 nights of which 4 in one of the amazing fairy like 'mushroom' cottages. They are truly wonderful, ours had ocean view from the balcony, but the most beautiful is the interior with colorful wall and ceiling paintings, mosaic bathroom, wooden furniture and everything in round shapes. Bads: No T.V, no A/C, no room service, expensive food, no phone, not on the cliff, no Indian food and also shortage in the dining area. We had to wait for ever to get our food served, they do not serve in the rooms too. Good: Massage, Silent, good non A/C rooms, maintained well, friendly staff, near the beach
We had 2 nights in the luxury cottages at The Eden Garden. The cottages are pretty quirky, and not your standard accomodation. They are however starting to show some signs of wear and tear in places, however I can only comment on the room we stayed in. If we were to return to Varkala we would probably opt for somewhere...

The cottages are nice but it was overpriced considering no airconditioning. Yes we travelled during peak season. Our cottage had a nice view of the beach (though this is not on the cliff). The staff were friendly. Tried their ayurvedic massage, nice and relaxing.
The rooms are like a fairy tale with large round beds and a matching large mosquito nets: see pics.
There is a large jacuzzi/bathtub and shower - with a separate toilet and basin.
