Most of the reviews were negative but we had a blast there!! 4 of us spent 3 days 2 nights there. We were upgraded for free into a really nice bungalow. Our front yard after the porch was the ocean. They are rustic but clean and comfortable with high speed fans. Food was AMAZING, fried fresh fish with coconut rice.... More

Between 10 AM and PM, this place is a madhouse. 50+ complete with coolers, babies, strollers arrive from Cartagena and take over all parts of this tiny island. Before and after it is quiet, peaceful and very hot. Our cabin was far from fancy, but sleeping next to the big screenless, bugless windows was delightful. Snorkling not great, food pretty... More

We spent 4 days on Isla del Pirata. The place could be a paradise. Unfortunately, it is completely run-down and obviously the owners have not invested anything since opening the place many years ago. When arriving at Cartagena harbor we were informed that we had to pay in cash as the hotel did not accept any credit cards. However, there... More

Caution..this overpriced "paradise" is a big scam. First you pay some lady in cash under a tree at the beach of Cartagena...not at a reception like any other hotel. Secondly, once on the island, no credit cards accepted. Third, once on the island you are harassed all day long by locals trying to sell you something. Lastly, the meals, well... More

If you want to pay over $200 for a 1 star bungalow and be harrassed by shady touts all day long while day tourists hog your beach, step right up. The property is woefully overpriced, and bottled water and alcohol drinks are not included in the otherwise "all inclusive" resort. From 10am - 5pm, day trips arrive to add 50... More

I'll open by staying that the majority of the employees at Isla del Pirata are genuinely delightful - friendly, engaged, reasonably helpful (within the constraints set out below), and it's sad to write a review which may damage the business that employs them. But the best thing that could happen to this place is that it goes bankrupt and taken... More

First, the staff here was great. They were super nice and accommodating. I feel bad for them that the nasty owners treat them more like servants than regular employees. Their tone with them is horribly rude and condescending. The lunch is the same EVERY DAY. Dinner is basically the same every day if you are a guest. If you are... More

Isla de Pirata is a gem. We did a day trip out to this island on May 31, 2011... A bit rustic but one can't complain when you're on a teeny little island off the coast of Colombia, in the Caribbean Sea. For around $50, you can take a wee motor boat (with way too many people) from Cartagena out... More

The reviews on this site are very polarised. We had a great time, the staff are lovely, the location remarkable for chill and relaxation, but luxury it is not. Think Safari lodge wit ha communal area and wood built lodges, which of course are fairly basic with palm leaf roofs and basic showers. The views are great, you can swim... More

I was very confused about whether or not to book my vacation at this hotel after reading the mixed reviews. Some loved it and some hated. I was one that loved it. The hotel is located on a small island that has nothing on it but the hotel itself. Completely secluded and tropical. About 1 hour boat ride from Cartagena.... More
