We stayed on the executive floor where the rooms had been recently renovated. Rooms are really small for a 5-Star Hotel with very ordinary furniture. They are presently doing cosmetic renovations but it is so far off a Shangi-La standard it is doubtful it will ever be. Hotel is weather beaten, smoke infested, shabby and worn down. Service was friendly and helpful and staff very willing as they develop Shangri-La level skills. Not worth the price.

Pretty old hotel currently under renovation till end 2010. Maybe the only decent international 5 stars you have in Beihai. 2 days is enough to visit this city. The beach was generally under water and covered with, perhaps, the largest Jelly-Fish I have ever seen in my life. Staff here are very friendly, and the breakfast is excellent, but rooms and general area need to be redone as Beihai has numerous other hotels that are much better for a fraction of the cost. However, renovations are being done so would like to try it once they are completed
