Neat building, especially the elevator. The remodel was cheap and ill-planned. they could've saved money on the awkward loft addition and bought bigger and better quality beds and linens. Rooms are clean and a bit stuffy, but that's an old building for you. Bed is a double, with firm and squeaky mattress and no box spring/support. Opt for a higher... More

We stayed there for three nights with family. The location is perfect. It is in the center of the old city, and near to everything. All tour trips start from this area. Many restaurants near by and just 5 mins walk to Mercado Del Puerto. The hotel itself maintains the historic architecture. The lift was around 100+ years old as... More

The best thing Hotel Plaza Fuerte has going for it is its location in the heart of the historic district of Montevideo. There's not a whole lot to see in Uruguay's main city, so we figured we might as well spend our two nights in the center of things. That proved to be a smart move as we were steps... More

Boutique hotel in the middle of the old town. Friendly reception who spoke English. Very helpful although I wouldn't take their tours they are much more expensive than taking the bus to for example Puente del Este or Colonia del Sacramento. The room was very clean and neat. Divided over 2 floors, they made a new floor into a room... More

Simply booked thru booking, 2 nights early february in a suite room, at an equivalent of 150 USD per night, inclusive of all taxes and sevice, as well as a good breakfast. This is a steal. We like : -Edge design, in a perfectly restored historical building. Wandering up and down the floors, walking on tiled corridors, under art deco... More

A great hotel, one block from the Plaza Independencia, the main square in Montevideo, and on the main pedestrianized street running into the old quarter. Many restaurants nearby. Historic building with really neat original elevator. Our room was completely remodeled to upscale, super-modern style, with very comfortable beds, but the public areas retain their original elegance. From our balcony, you... More

On the positive side: great location, beautiful old building with some original features preserved. The mezzanine style of bedroom and bathroom upstairs is a fantastic idea and therefore the room is spacious. Huge floor to ceiling windows, and balcony to street. Two TV's (only one working) acceptable buffet breakfast, friendly and helpful reception staff. We paid internet booking price of U$60/day... Rooms were small and old. room doors lock with keys and look like we can open them just with a kick. Carpet in the room is run down. Bathroom are dark. The street is really noisy. Far from the beach On the good side: good service, good breakfast

Love staying in old buildings with lots of character. This hotel is near Plaza Independencia the center of the old city. We walked all over Montevideo from this hotel. The room was big enough for two people and had a balcony you could go out on. Our room was 406 and looking out the balcony we could see the Old... More

The hotel is very well located, surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants. The hotel itself wasnt clean and spacious enough but it was very pretty. Staff was helpful, although there was only 1 person in the reception for the entire evening and night. Very noisy. Overall too noisy, wouldnt go back.
