Others simply hope the medicine does the trick while they collect the cash, the accolades or whatever else they desire. Scott, on the other hand, lives full-time in the jungle and leads by example. As a psychologist, he understands the human condition. As an herbalist and archaeologist, he understands medicines and cultures. As an experienced shaman, he knows to how... More

The day-to-day experiences written about here are similar to mine. There is a very caring environment at Refugio Altiplano, and for me, it was very sad to leave. Scott has one of the quickest senses of humor I have had the pleasure to encounter anywhere, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, from beginning to end. My trip was... More

I have stayed at the Refugio Altiplano 2 times. It is a wonderful and comfortable place to enjoy the Amazon and Ayahuasca. Fantastic ceremonies! Scott is very caring and helpful as a guide and shaman. A very cleansing place that I hope to return to again. Highly recommended to those looking for transformation in their lives. High adventure and beauty. More

Very relaxing! I selected Refugio Antiplano based on information from internet websites such as Tripadvisor then I travelled to the Amazonian Rainforest in October 2011. I felt like I was at home there. Scott and the staff were very congenial and helpful. I was concerned that my inability to speak Spanish would be a hindrance, but I managed fine there.... More

My girlfriend and I had been dreaming of going to the Amazon and experiencing an ayahuasca ceremony there. Four very dear friends had all been to Refugio Altiplano and had tremendously transformative experiences while there. It was on the top of my list as a result. I had heard that there are many places and people that offer the ceremony,... More

I had the most amazing experience at Refugio Altiplano. The setting is beautiful, the people are warm and down-to-earth, the food is gourmet and healthy, and the healing methods are very effective. Besides incredible shamanic ceremonies, Refugio Altiplano is blessed with a botanical garden full of plants that are used in herbal remedies for just about any condition you could... More

To be fair, I'm not really qualified to judge whether the Refugio Altiplano is the best Ayahuasca retreat in the World, since I haven't visited any others, but I'd bet good money on it being so :) I wanted to visit the Peruvian Amazon to experience Ayahuasca, and after extensive research I settled on the Refugio, where I spent 10... This is my second time back at the Refugio Altiplano. Refugio is like my second home in the Amazon I love this place so much. This is the place to be if you're looking to escape the modern society, experience the magical Amazonian jungle, find your connection with nature and experience the paramount healing medicine, Ayahuasca. The medicine taught me... More

I've just recently returned from my second visit to Scott Petersens Refugio Altiplano -- I was just as pleased with the effect of the powerful medicine and pristine environment on my health/ peace of mind as I was my first time around. Scott is a very knowledgable and experienced guide, and the facilities are first class for a jungle lodge.... More
