A colonial hotel with 300 years of history.Hotel Casona Solar is a beautiful restored colonial gentleman’s house build in 1702 in the centre of the colonial city of Arequipa. Hotel Casona Solar has the atmosphere that Arequipa had in the 18th century. The thick walls are made out of the white volcanic stone Sillar and all rooms have the so typical high arched roofs and big doors that enter one of the two central courtyards. All rooms have modern bathrooms with toilet. In our bar we serve every morning between 6 AM and 10 AM a breakfast buffet. In our big garden you can enjoy the blue sky and the 320 days of sunshine that Arequipa offers year in year out. The average day temperature is 25 degrees Celsius and rain is rare. After a long day exploring Arequipa and the surroundings you can enjoy the cool mountain evenings at our fireplace while having a snack and a drink. On just a 2 minutes walking distance you will find the ‘Plaza de Armas’ one of the most beautiful main squares of Peru. Also the neoclassical cathedral, the monastery of Santa Catalina, the mummy Juanita and the typical colonial buildings in classical Spanish style are one step away. You can always see from every point in the city the perfect conic 5822 meter high volcano El Misti. In 1980 hotel Casona Solar recieved the title national momument by UNESCO and INC.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This really is a hidden gem. When the taxi pulled up I thought there must be a mistake. But once the door was opened we entered a charming courtyard. The owners and staff were very friendly and we were delighted with our room with its domed ceiling. The laundry service was excellent and very reasonably priced. A short stroll took us to the museum housing the “ice maiden”, and a little further was the main square. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Really nice hotel right in the center of town. Relatively quiet and wonderful, classical rooms. Excellent breakfast and the nicest service in the world. Washing service for your clothes and nice, hot showers, comfortable beds that are just a dream. A must to stay and a must to come back here.

We would go back to Arequipa at any time. This hotel was part of the reason. The courtyards, rooms and common areas were architecturally stunning and very comfortable. The location was great. The food was wonderful. And the staff was superb. Check-in was easy; they kindly made dinner reservations for us; and they stored our luggage on our last day before our flight our of town. If you want value and the experience of colonial architecture then this a perfect spot.

It is a budget hotel, so expect a Peruvian style breakfast, and to wait 30 minutes for drinks even though the hotel was completely empty which I think is quite insulting to its customers. Also children live there and are very loud in the garden, with erratic shrieking right outside your bedroom door (to be fair, much of our party found this enchanting). My real problem is that I was completely unable to sleep past sunrise. The oculus is like someone coming in and shining a torch in your retinas. This will be a great hotel for you if you are able to sleep with the sun shining directly in your eyes. Not me sadly. I feel bad saying this because they were really nice otherwise, but ultimately for me it's no good if you can't sleep.

Loved everything about this place. The staff was all wonderful, the breakfasts are amazing and made to order, the rooms are very nice with all the usual amenities, the building is 300 years old and beautiful, and the front and back patios are gorgeous. It is very quiet and two blocks away from the main plaza. There is a wonderful little bakery just down the block if you want an extra sweet, although the breakfasts are huge and fantastic. The laundry service is quick and very inexpensive. One of the loveliest places I have ever stayed and extremely reasonable in price.

This hotel is extra ordinary. Everything is well organized. The service is very commendable. We liked the way the breakfast is organized. The owner Gerdson has everything under control. He even showed us around the wonderful compound. Highly commendable place to stay.

We were here during our visit to Arequipa during December 2021. Location: This is a 300 year old home converted into a beautiful hotel. It is a couple of blocks away from the Main square. The courtyard is very pretty and has lot of places to sit and read or just relax. There are a lot of restaurants at the main square ( Plaza De Armas). The main attractions like Monasterio de Santa Catalina are walking distance and saves you from sightseeing tours. Service: The owners, Gersto and his daughter Natalie are awesome. Gersto is so well travelled and a great conversationalist. He has been running this place since 2003. The service is perfect and very warm. Natalie organized everything like breakfast, airport pickup/drop off and always has a warm smile like her Dad. Rooms: We stayed on the suite/apartment which was huge and 2 floors with 2 bedroom built in Arequipa architecture of arches and volcanic stones. The kitchen and bathrooms are up-to date and very modern. The only thing which is missing is the windows due to the volcanic/earthquake prone setting Arequipa. The door windows need to be open for fresh air. This place was rated by :Lonely Planet as a top place to stay in Arequipa and I agree. Would highly Recommend.

We stayed here for two nights and we loved the place. A beautiful old building, restored to its former glory. Spacious rooms with a big bed and even a tea maker. The garden is beautiful too; we had a delicious breakfast there. The host was very friendly and hospitable and so was the rest of the staff; we appreciate all the tips we got for visiting the city and practical staff like how to avoid altitude sickness. If you ever visit Arequipa, definitely go there.

Not only is the owner super involved and welcoming and gracious and too many other wonderful adjectives to count, but the room we were in was outstanding. I would go so far as to say: it’s the coolest room I’ve ever stayed in. And we’ve traveled the world for many years. Room 110 is a king suite that has a 30 foot tall antique brick vaulted ceiling and stone walls that must be two feet thick! There is an oculus in the ceiling that lets in natural light. Additionally, there are two separate courtyards including a garden that are exquisitely maintained and beautiful. Can’t say enough good things about this hotel including the price!
