If you are looking for a boutique hotel or a 5 start cabana, this is not for you. Nor is it a place for you if you want dining and sleeping quarters nearby. We were taken to our isolated room ( which was really a cabin/hacienda) up a steep, beautiful and dangerous road. The room was a ridiculous red colour and smelled musty. Tinalandia is a nice place to watch insects and birds and to experience the cloud forest. As a hotel or hosteria it's a complete failure. The staff is not qualified, the owners obvious are overchallenged with running a guesthouse. Cabins (rooms) are very basic, same with the food. The rates are just exorbitant!

I came to Tinalandia from advise of an old friend who had been there back in the 1980s. I was not disappointed. My specific interests are butterfly and moth macro photography and the range of species that can be found there is staggering. The service and food are excellent and the accommodations are basic but comfortable.
