My girlfriend and I were finishing off a jaunt in Argentina and Chile at the Hostal Rio Amazonas in the Plaza Italia neighborhood of Santiago. The hostal's location is fantastic, being within walking distance of the Cerro Bellavista and the Baquedano metro station, making it very easy for one to explore Santiago. It was highly recommended by a journalist friend... More

- Perfectly located: 3 blocks away from Baquedano metro Station; a walking distance away from a lot of great places, including the restaurants of Calle Constituición (Barrio Bellavista). - Very friendly staff, always smiling and willing to help you (without being intrusive). - Wonderful building. If you like old buildings architecture, you will like it. - Good rooms. No frills,... More

I stayed in a single en-suite room on the second floor in late March. The room was very small, but it was an excellent value for the price and it was very clean. There wasn't any place to stash your suitcase, so you should be nimble to get around the single room. I really liked staying in an older historic... More

We loved our stay. We booked for 2 nights and came back between tours for 2 more visits. Each time, we found the staff helpful, friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is especially delicious and very sustaining, with plenty of top ups of tea and coffee, freshly squeezed fruit juices every morning. Cool music playing, very soothing and comforting. Internet access... More

I only stayed one night in this hostel as I was just passing through Santiago on my way home from Argentina. But wished I could have stayed longer. The hostel was clean and well run with great staff who were amazingly helpful and friendly. The location was good and the breakfast the best I have ever had at a hostel.

We can't say enough good things about this place! It is one of the coolest hostels we have ever stayed at mainly because the staff are INCREDIBLE!! We came back here 3 times on our travels through South America and each time, the staff were so helpful and made our stay very comfortable. The breakfast is yummy, the music in... More

Hostels come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, with qualities that run from bug-invested dumps to establishments that are better than many hotels at twice the price. Rio Amazonas easily fits into the latter category. We were booked into a private room at the front for five nights, and it was a pleasure to return here after a... More

The location at Plaza Italia & the Baquedano metro stop is ideal. The owners don't speak much English but were friendly and helpful & we never had trouble communicating with them. The public spaces were well appointed and comfortable and breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the windows were astonishingly soundproof. Our one complaint... More

Stayed here 16 nights with my whole team (habitat for humanity). Staff was amazing, rooms were simple but clean. Breakfast also simple but a nice touch. We had room 26 - nice layout, full bathtub, big bathroom, queen bed. Double pane windows mean not much sound when closed. Rooms could get hot tho! Friends in room 38 had a porch... More
