We stayed in this hotel as part of an organised tour of China through Travelsphere, this was the 3rd of 3 hotels we stayed in. After reading the reviews I was dreading this hotel but it was actually ok. The room was very small and wasn't as well equipped as the other two hotels we stayed in during our visit... More

Stayed for three nights either side of trekking the Great Wall (travelling with Exodus) and this hotel provided a welcome haven of comparative luxury: clean, quiet, working showers and loos and a decent breakfast with a range of choice. Free water was supplied (although don't be tempted to open the deceptively available bottle of Evian which will cost you £5).... More

Oh dear. The Dong Fang comprises two wings, the old wing which seems pleasant and has a nice coffee shop, and the 'new' wing I was in which is a concrete tower that I was stuck in. It has a dated and strange design with huge lobbies on each floor that no one uses. The lifts take a long time... More

Obviously the people who are complaining about this hotel and the neighborhood NO NOTHING about the history of China-otherwise they would completely appreciate the DongFang, its location, and the surrounding neighborhood! My students and I stayed at the DongFang in 2008 and 2010 while on a typical tourist trip in China-even though we saw all the sights-staying in this hotel... More

Location not good, neighbourhood poor, but if you are on a tour (as I was) and being taken to the major sites this doesn't really matter. The smell of tobacco smoke within the hotel is a problem though. Corridors reeked of smoke and Chinese smoking in the corridors was a common sight. Essential to get a non-smoking room to reduce... Spent 5 nights here in August 2011 prior to joining tour which left from here. This was the only reason for choosing this hotel. Booked and paid for a "Celebrities Former Residence Suite" in the building behind the the more modern tower. Room was smaller than photo depicted but it was OK although quite dark until in the middle of... More

This hotel was my first stop in China for the start of a 3 week tour of China with a tour group (Exodus). I found the hotel and the hotel room to be clean. The staff were very helpful. I personally did not experience any noise in the room. Breakfast was buffet, a mixture of Chinese and European, plenty on... More

There are better and worse hotels in Beijing. This is somewhere in the middle and looks good in its internet publicity. . Breakfast was good and rooms ….well OK but reeked of smoke. Bit short on lifts for the number of rooms and levels so expect to wait a little at busy times. Staff were helpful and enough English spoken... More

Impressive lobby. Receptionists speak good English. Give good exchange rate for American dollars. Huge selection of food for breakfast. Terrible neighbourhood. Internet cafe and gift shop. Rooms not clean. Moldy grout in bathrooms. Internet not working in the room. Taxis don't want to take you back to this hotel. Taxis in front of this hotel only want to take you... More
