We have spent 6 nights in this guest house that is placed in a quiet area and close to a metro station. It looks very nice, like an old chinese house with a lovely courtyard. The problem is that rooms are not isolated and you are waked up by the neighbours' alarm in the morning or by other noisy guests... More

Stayed in the very welcoming Houtong Hotel over Chinese Lunar New Year 2012. Arrived on New Year's Eve and was invited to join in a traditional meal with other guests and the owner's family. Overall the hostel was clean, warm (with both heated air-con and a radiator in the room). The staff were very friendly, always keen to give directions... More

We booked a private room with ensuite in the East building. I was very specific in the emails that we wanted a private room near the back that was quiet and they assured us that was what we would get. The problem is that none of the rooms are quiet. All rooms face the courtyard. The room is very basic... More

I just stayed one night here but wished we had a few more. The courtyard and rooms are decorated beautifully, and make you feel as though you are truly staying in a classic Asian guesthouse. We used the common bathroom which was very clean, and convenient. As other reviews state, it is a little noisy in the courtyard, so bring... More

My husband and I stayed five nights in a private room with shared bathroom in the main building. I'd expected something a bit nicer for the price we paid (190RMB/night, IIRC). All of the rooms in the main building are right off the common area, so there's a lot of noise - music, people talking, children running around and yelling,... More

We stayed for 5 days and everything was nice despite from the garden during night time. It's always people talking and making noise. Staff don't do nothing at all... Small rooms but nice and the baths area really comfortable. More

Located in Xinjiekou area, 5 minutes walk from the nearest subway line. It is located in a Hutong (Alley) which will give you a Hutong experience. Hutong is Chinese word for alley, some of the alley in Beijing can be traced back more than 1000 years ago. There are two building that serve as the hotel. the first house is... More

I visited the Red Lantern House five years ago at the end of the Trans-Siberian Railway and enjoyed the character and friendliness of the place. Returning with my wife we were located in the new wing of the hostel which lacks the character of the original place. The Red Lantern House delivers in a number of key areas: price, basic... More

We stayed here for a few nights and it was one the best hotel experiences ever. Staff was so helpful and they all spoke very good English and gave advice if needed. Our first flight was cancelled and the second was six hours late and we had booked an airport pick-up, which we couldn't cancel, but when we finally arrived... More

I spent a week here with some friends while travelling through China, and it was a great location, inexpensive and very clean with a great and helpful staff. I stayed in a room with 2 beds, and we were very comfortable. The food was also great, and the staff helped us plan our day trips with ease. What I loved... More
