We drove by car from Mombasa via Lamu to Garissa. The Lamu Palace had a very friendly management, excellent staff, great food. The rooms with seaview are good. The rooms to the back should be avoided. There was renovation going on. In central Lamu, I found the Palace the best hotel, however it cannot be compared with the luxury (and... More

After 1 night at another hotel, we moved over to the Palace hotel. Thankfully these rooms had air conditioning as it was SO hot in Lamu when we were there. Food was ok, but there were a lot of places to eat within walking distance. You must take a dhow to Shela and Manda beaches! Best place in the world!!... More

New Lamu Palace Hotel is a really great place to visit if you want to spend a little time exploring Lamu Town. We were met at the airstrip on Manda Island by staff from the hotel and taken by their boat directly to the hotel where we were greeted with a fresh coconut drink. The hotel is situated right on... Far too expensive compared to the lovely hotels 2 kilometres away in Shela, like Kijani House which is cheaper and far beautifully decorated. They insist on charging 5% for Amex and Visa. Rooms are boxy with just enough room to move round the double bed. No hot water. The food was also expensive and not very tasty.

Good for one night stay but over priced for what it is. The front of house staff were friendly and the free city tour was well worth doing.

Couldn't ask for more professional .helpful staff. Always pleasant . Facility needs refurbishing . I have nothing to compare as far as other Lamu hotels but if the owner would spend some money on this hotel , he/she would have a charming hotel.

Small but nice. Rooms were moderate, clean and pretty. Nice little fresh pool. The roof-top is sensationel with the fresh-breeze and one of the few places where they serve alcohol. Located on the quai in the city. Pick-Up from the airport (which is on another island). Not extraordinary, but nice. Not worth more than Euro 65. Don't miss the monster-crabs... More

Stayed for five nights in the Lamu Palace. The location is excellent (right on the waterfront), and the hotel seems to have its own generator (very handy when there were two lengthy powercuts during our stay). My room was fitted with mosquito nets, and had air conditioning (although its location meant that the bit outside the bathroom was cool, but... More

After the fantastic review from the person that visited in January 2006, we decided that that was where we wanted to go. Lamu is indeed a very special place, a small Arab town with narrow streets where fully laden donkeys form the traffic. From the terrace of the hotel you see the swahili women in black buibuis and men in... More

We visited the beautiful island of Lamu in January 2006 and stayed at the New Lamu Palace Hotel. We flew from Malindi to Lamu and landed at the airstrip at Manda Island where we were met by Mohammed our guide from the hotel who escorted us to the hotel motor boat to cross over the channel to Lamu Island.
