$10 - $15 Guesthouse / Hostel (I am being generous with that figure) charging $59 S.E.Asia "Hotel" prices. A disappointing stay at May Shan Hotel. The "Hotel" needs a good clean from top to bottom before anyone else should be allowed to stay there. Dirty, run-down and outdated. If I hadn't booked and paid online with no chance of a... More

Good, clean hotel centrally located next to Sule Paya. Very friendly helpful staff. Breakfast is toast, fried egg,coffee/tea,bananas and very filling. Hotel has computer that you can use for reasonable cost and very good connection or free wi-fi. Good water pressure and hot water. In all a comfortable hotel with helpful staff if not a little expensive. There is also a... More

We had a triple room (room was recommended by lonely planet). It was clean adn with air-con, but it was quite small and very basic. It had a small old TV and a small bathroom (albeit with hot water). The beds were not made every day and the water was not replenished either. We had to pay for water and... More

Our room was small, windowless and very old and dated but it was clean. It was not the kind of room you looked forward to coming back to at the end of the day. The breakfast was pretty basic with a banana, egg and bread. It was also one of the more expensive hotels we stayed at in Myanmar. On... More

The may Shan is an immaculately clean hotel with air con, a private bath and a high quality international cable TV feed into every room, including English language Al Jazeera. WifFi is in the lobby only. There is a modest breakfast, fruit, an egg toast, jam, juice, tea and coffee included in the high price ($46 single/$59 double with a... More

The room is overpriced, the room is small, and facilities are incomplete but location is strategic, food are around that area. This hotel is suitable for backpacker, for family it is not recommended. I will rate the hotel as three stars.

We stayed her for two nights and really enjoyed it. As others have mentioned Yangon is extremely expensive so this is a good find. We reserved a room with a small window, which is exactly what we got. The room was quite small compared to American hotels, but quite normal for the rest of the world. The breakfast is the... More

My wife and stayed in Yangon at this hotel and were not pleased. It is backpacker quality with rates a lot higher than expected. The rooms were clean but they were small and dank. The location is quite good however located close to all amenities. I would not ever stay in Yangon again! If I returned to Myanmar I would... More

I must agree with most of the other reviews of the May Shan - the location is ideal and the service was excellent, even if the rooms were on the small side. From my first email exchange with Ko Htiak, the staff at May Shan were professional and very helpful. It was virtually impossible for me to make local Myanmar... More

The May Shan is located beside Sule Pagoda which is an excellent location. The staff were very helpful and can be counted on for good advice. They converted my money to kyat at a good rate and then bought it back at the same rate at the end of my stay! Yes the price is high compared to other countries... More
