The location of this hotel is right on Sule Pagoda, the center of Yangon. Plenty of restaurants and very easy to go around exploring the city from there. But even better than the location is the staff, they were very helpful and even booked all the internal flights in Myanmar for me before I actually arrived in Yangon. They respond... More

This is a very basic but a friendly family run hotel in Yangon. It is centrally located and a good choice if you want to avoid big hotels run by corrupt officials. The owners are helpful with all your queries.

So my most recent return trip to Myanmar began and ended with staying in this hotel and chose to stay here again based on my first experience staying here late last fall. The price for a single room was only $29 US per night and the room is always clean. When first emailing and informing of my reservation, as 'Scizorsim'... More

The only good points I can offer are, the staff are friendly & helpful. Located in central location & an average breakfast. If it wasn't for the Water Festival & all reasonable accomodation booked I would stay elsewhere!

Location was right smack next to Sula Paya, and within walkable distance to Scott Market. I stayed for a night in March 2012, and paid $29 for a single room. Service: Booked via email (info@mayshan.com), and response was swift (a reply every 24 hours). Ko Htaik was helpful in helping me reserve my domestic air tickets 2 weeks in advance,... More

The May Shan is a simple, old fashioned hotel in the very heart of Yangon. It's right next to Sule Pagoda and the location is perfect if you want to wander around the city. It's easy to walk to Bogyoke Aung San Market (Scott Market) and the Strand is stroll in the opposite direction. This is a no frills hotel,... More

The May shan hotel is really clean very central.( outside it's doors is the Shwedagon Paya) Again another windowless room, with the only means of escape if a fire was the stairwell. On the plus side all passage ways and stairs were concrete and tiles.Breakfast was good and the owners very helpful.Turn right out of the hotel and right again to... May Shan is a no-frills budget hotel with friendly owners. We had a window-less room with a double bed-- The room was small, but it had AC and hot water. Breakfast was toast and an egg any way you want it. Wifi worked just okay in the lobby. (If you are looking for super fast wifi in a fancy environment,... More

In a country with very little in the way of a hospitality industry, the May Shan offers few surprises. It is no-frills: perfunctory housekeeping, bare bones rooms, unreliable wifi in the lobby, uninspired breakfast. What it does have going for it is its location, practically overlooking Sule Paya and within walking distance of the Indian neighborhood, Chinatown, happy hour at... More

We stayed for three nights on arrival in Yangon (Feb 2012 ) and then for our last night in Yangon. They seemed to be virtually fully booked every night with people regularly turned away. A room with double bed cost us $35 ..no window...and one with double bed and single bed $50..with a window overlooking the main road. This main... More
