The Grand Hotel in Kinshasa is one of those old African Hotel relics that is in real need of a serious upgrade. It was once one of the big and most recongisable hotels in this region but time left it unattended. Luckily the retake of the hotel by the Lornho group is showing clear signs of improvement! room upgrades, full... More

7 years since I was last in this hotel, 7 years ... and all that has changed are the carpets. Rooms are old, run down, bathrooms are shockingly dirty and run down, smell in the rooms is awful, service is the same (actually I recognized most of the personnel, who was not that great 7 years ago, and they are... I've stayed at both the Memling and the Grand Hotel, next time I come to Kinshasa I'm going to stay at the Memling. The Grand Hotel is definitely in a better part of town and has a very nice gym and pool. But the rooms were not great and the hotel staff was not particularly helpful. The breakfast buffet was... I arrived and the safe in the room didn't lock, I called for it to be fixed, and the maintenance man spent three hours in the room, so I couldn't leave. The hotel wasn't full so I don't know why they didn't change my room. There is no kettle or tea/coffee facilities. I don't remember the last time a hotel... More

I have stayed at the Grand Hotel on several occasions. It use to be called the International Hotel. It was the the main hotel which the elite (political and otherwise) would all hunker down in during an coup or uprising. It has to be one of the poorest valued, over priced places to stay. Why do I return? It happens... More

I agree with other reviewers on this hotel. It was overpriced. Buffet breakfast was $28 and in the evening round the pool, 3 of us had a pizza and a couple of beers each and the bill was in 3 figures! It seems that there is very little competition in Kinshasa and we were told that this hotel was one... More

The room I was in had not been updated since the late 1970's. There was no microwave, kettle, coffee maker, or ironing board. The patio door did not lock. The $28 breakfast included a host of mystery meats and pork-in-beans. Dinner was rather good, however. Several ceiling leaks can be easily be spotted in the main reception area. The staff... More

Location is good as it is on the banks of Congo River within Diplomatic enclave of Kinshasa. I liked its swimmimg pool and Gymnasium. Rest everything is just okay as compared to its prices...

The Grand Hotel is one of just a handful of international standard hotels in Kin. But it does what it says on the can; it's clean, comfortable, the rooms are relatively spacious, they have great views of the Congo River and the city, and the food is (just) up to international standard. Yes it is expensive, but that's mainly due... More

If you are travelling on per diem and have a choice, this is a fairly consistant pick. It has wifi in the rooms (slow but works) and breakfast that is decent. They have a good pool with a great workout facility. A lot of people that live in Kinshasa have memberships to the facilities. There is a casino adjoining the... More
