Lacy Victorian Cara shows still-functional Demerarra shutters to the street and the welcome embrace of gentler times gone by inside each room. The décor is too genuine to be “shabby chic” or “decorator antique”. It is simply elegant, lived-in, old Georgetown – plus functional plumbing, ceiling fans, and all modern conveniences. There is AC if you want it. Comfortable chairs... More

My husband who is a Guyana native and I'm American who usually stay a 5 star hotels when we travel. We originally tried to check into Pegasus Hotel but after using their restroom decided not to stay. We were referred to the Cara Lodge and was quite happy. Our chief complaint was the food. For $150 US per night it... More

we stayed at the Cara Lodge for 5 nights. We found the staff unhelpful with the exception of one receptionist and the maid. The food was passable and below standard. We have stayed in smaller and less select hotels in the West Indies and had much better food. Whilst the rooms were reasonably clean the bedding was not, the windows... More

I think that this is the best on offer in Georgetown, it's okay if you want to spend a night before moving on but i would recommend flying in early to Georgetown then flying straight out to one of the lodges in the rainforest because it is only a one and a half hour flight to the interior. Food and... More

We had been staying with relatives around the corner but conditions were cramped and tempers began to fray so we booked in here for our last 5 nights. Wish we had done it sooner! Wonderful old colonial building with very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is amazing, like something from the 1960's, and really pretty at night with the... More

A boutique hotel with both excellent service and meals. Older building, but good rooms, with quiet inner courtyard. Professional and friendly staff. More

The lodge is based on a colonial property with attractive whitewashed balconies. We spent three nights here on our travels through Guyana, and it appears to be one of the better options in a relatively unattractive town. Rooms are sizeable, clean and comfortable, the food is good, the beer is cold and the staff helpful - but don't expect lifts... More

Probably still the bet choice in Georgetown. Clean rooms with basic comfort. Nothing special, a little expensive. Service is Guyana style, with a smile. More

I love Guyana, but their hotels have always been a disappointment. Continuing in this tradition (the title name is not a typo) was the Cara Lodge - my choice after going through the reviews on this very site. I just couldn't go back to the Pegasus (ranked #5) after my last stay there (noisy AC, terrible bathroom) so decided to... More
