I love this hotel for more than ten years when I was a student. The staffs are helpful, and the location is very good. It is just in front of the Hijaz station, and only ten minutes' walk to the Old City. The central heating works well in winter, so I was really relieved when I arrived here in the... More

It is 10 minutes walk far from the center, but staff was not very helpful. Our room was small, old forniture and not so clean. So it was the bathroom. <But For one single night it worked.

Stayed here for 3 nights - a good location, 5 mins from the handycraft market and museum, and 10 mins from the souk. Terribly overpriced for the standard of rooms, though. Good camera shop nearby and a couple of ATMs too. If you get a cab here, ask for Hijaz ; this is the old station very close by. All... More

Stayed here twice in June, as launch and return point for exploring the country. Was my first visit to Syria but my husband comes every summer to work with a dig, and this is where they always stay. Is the choice for many international dig teams apparently. Although the price just went up, as all prices in Syria seem to... More

I have stayed in this hotel more than c6 times and find its qualities improving each time: friendlyness and competence of the staff, good human simplicity, practical helpfullness about almost everything - from ticket confirmation to getting a good car+driver etc - Of course, if you keep coming to such a place, you become a friend...

We have never experienced such rude, sulky and unhelpful staff during our 2 weeks in Syria!!! To be fair, the room was clean and relatively quiet. However, the staff was extremely unpleasant and they were totally disorganized when it came to the room booking. After the first night there, we wanted to confirm our room stay for a few more... The location is good, about 10mins walk to the old city and the bed is clean and comfortable. However the room was rather old and the showers were old and a little dirty. Breakfast is simple with some bread and jams and a boiled egg. It has basic facilities and has no problem sleeping so in overall this hotel is... More

This hotel is ok if you are after a budget option in a good location but the service is certainly not what Lonely Planet makes it out to be. We asked for a few tips and received one line answers only and nothing extra. Rooms are very basic, I would even go so far as to say verging on the... More

It's a 10-minute walk from the Old City, which is good, and right next to the train station intersection where you can find an ATM. However, for $55 (as of May, 2009), I found it overpriced. The room was average for the Middle East with double beds and good-enough bathroom. I was surprised to find a cockroach on my foot... More

The reason to stay at Sultan Hotel is for their helpful assistance and front desk services. I arrived in Damascus in the early evening and within about thirty minutes they had set me up with a rental car beginning that very day, with full insurance, for about 50 USD a day. The front desk staff speaks very good English and... More
