This hotel was chosen by us because our grandmother used to sew for the Pasha families and these wonderfully restored houses were as close as we could get to our heritage. We were thrilled after quite a wild ride from the airport through the amazing and exotic hilly cobblestone streets of Istanbul. We realized once we entered the garden and... More

I had seen this hotel (from the outside) on a previous visit to Istanbul so I knew the location to be good. I asked for a room on a higher floor, essential, as I wanted a view. However, the view was oblique and obscured by dirty windows and shutters. When I arrived in the house it felt like the whole... More

Nice enough place but we experienced a series of small disappointments which in total, left us less than thrilled. Hotel said we would be met at airport. We weren’t. Said to have view of Hagia Sophia. Yes, but only dome and top of minarets, rest hidden by high wall. Said ‘suite’ had private Turkish bath. No, it had a small... More

We were fortunate to have received a recommendation to stay at the Ayasofya Konaklari. The online pictures do not do it justice. It's a little piece of heaven located in the centre of a very busy and hectic city. Coming home to our room each day was something we looked forward to. Yes the rooms are a bit dated and... More

Three nites here. First two were on a top floor in one of the street-fronting rooms. IT'S A LONG WAY UP THE NARROW STAIRS. Room was unbearably cramped (might have been bearable if we weren't paying about $275/nite!!!) and hot despite AC. Buffet breakfast was adequate but mediocre at best. Piles of dust balls under the bed! Third nite was... More

The Ayasofya Konaklari mansions are conveniently located in the popular historic district of Sultanahmet, which is on the European side of Istanbul. The exterior offers a postcard perfect view, where a cobblestone street separates the Ayasofya mosque from the Ayasofya Konaklari. The mansions are a collection of century old timber-fronted mansions, once occupied by prominent Istanbul families but now run... More

A location to Die for (right behind the Hagia Sofia) and next to the Topkapi and walking distance from the museum; Cottages that are beautiful and comfortable, Great Breakfast and Helpful staff. We stayed here for 5 wonderful days in March and had an absolutely wonderful time. It's great for families and highly recommended More

This was my 2nd stay here over 17 years and it lived up to my memory. Nestled against the walls of the topkapi palace across a quite street from the Haggia Sophia, the location is ideal. The hotel is in a row of wooden homes built at the turn of last century, so it feels like you are living in... More

As other reviewers have said, the location is unbeatable, but this is not a plush hotel with all mod-cons. Rooms in the old traditional Ottoman houses are all upstairs (with no lifts), the bathrooms are small and fairly basic, the bedrooms are basic - no tea/coffee making facilities, no TV, no radio/alarm, no wifi (that is available in the coffee... We've visited Istanbul, as tourists, three times in the last few years. To get the best out of historic Istanbul, the only area to stay is Sultanahmet, the old city. Lots of options, ranging from the Four Seasons (which is terrific) to various guest houses and B&Bs. Ayasofya Konaklari is a fantastic choice, because of location, location, location. The location...
