In 2006, we created our Spicy Hostel that has since hosted thousands of very happy travelers... Do not miss your opportunity to experience the spiciness in Chiang Mai.Beginning in September 2006, we have shown this country what a real backpackers hostel is and how to run a great hostel. Rated No.2 in Asia 2007 and No.1 in Thailand 2008, Spicythai has really brought the backpackers hostel to life in Thailand. A group of young locals with lots of travel experiences and warm hearts have created each Spicy and have brought them to the top of the game in a very short time. Six years of success prove very well that we have been doing the right thing. Now Spicythai is in its new location: an even bigger and more beautiful house in a more convenient location, close to the Old City.Special Features at Spicythai;Apart from normal stuff that you will get at budget hostels such as free toiletries, a book swap, reference books, bed linens, parking, city maps, tour information, etc, we offer more including:- Strong and firm handmade bunk beds (no funny noises to annoy you while sleep)- AC in all dorms (we live in the city so AC is a good investment for climate and pollution)- Free coffee and tea with toast, butter and jams- Kitchen with free spices and oil- Original honesty system mini-bar with 24/7 easy access- Big-screen TV & home theater system with cable TV and an incredible collection of movies and TV series- Communal computers with high speed internet until midnight and 24/7 free WiFi- Free use of storage closet

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rated number one hostel in Thailand a decade ago but unfortunately, nothing has been updated since then. Beds uncomfortable and possibly from the previous century. Couldn’t sleep so decided to switch hostels mid way through my stay in Chiangmai just to get some sleep. Showers and toilets basic but there is access to hot water. Mosquitoes a problem when using the bathrooms as there are holes in the walls instead of windows, so they just fly in. Staff were very good, especially the Canadian. Despite leaving before my original expected check out date, the staff were happy to refund my remaining nights that I didn’t stay which says a lot about guest care in my eyes.

Great place to stay, hostel hosts are extremely helpful with organizing things to do and the bathroom is enormous. There is a take it/leave it shelf for backpackers to use and a book exchange and big tv.

I stayed at Spicythai for 4 nights just after the Songkran festival. The first night was quite dead as people had either left after Songkran or were terribly hungover! (though I did hear the hostel was very lively and packed during the festival!) The staff were very friendly, there's a big table where you can talk/eat and sofas and a big TV with loads of movies - great for when you just need to chill! It's in a good location and of course there's a seven eleven down the road! The beds were comfy, and there's a lovely balcony you can chill and watch the sunset from. I met loads of different people at this hostel, including some amazing people I continued to travel with! The only thing I would mention is that there isn't really a proper outside sitting area; there's a big driveway with a tree but it would have been nice to have a few chairs and tables as we all just sat on the floor! Apart from that it was a very pleasant hostel!

I booked this hostel for 3 nights, but only ended up staying 1. The beds are hard as rocks and the showers are very old feeling and crummy. If your priority is to meet people, this place fits the bill - it’s too easy and everyone’s there to do that. But if your priority is to see things in Thailand, you can easily do better for the same price in terms of location. Good restaurants, markets and street food, Doi Suthep and the Old City are all about a mile away. Would be a nice walk if the area was nice but the streets aren’t (unlike others lined with fountains and markets) and have lots of cars.

The best thing about this hostel is the common area, where people hang out and get to known eachother! The Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is free toast and coffe, there’s a TV, dorms with aircon, shower with hot water, mosquitos in common area and shower. Will definitely go again! :D

This was the best hostel I stayed at throughout my trip through thailand! I was lucky enough to stumble in once getting to Chiang Ma, and I am happy I did! I had originally planned on staying in Chiang Ma for 2 days, but with how great a place this was I didn't want to leave and ended up staying for 4 more nights! Then I left for Pai and stayed at their sister location SpicyPai!!! And then decided to go back to Chiang Ma, to stay at you guessed it.. SpicyThai! The Hostel was clean, cheap, had A/C rooms, extremely social atmosphere, and great employees who remember your name and are helpful in all situations! Having access to the kitchen there was also one of the best things about this hostel. Don't get me wrong I love me some toast and bananas but sometimes you need something different and having a kitchen made that possible! Throughout the rest of my trip I referred everyone I talked to towards staying at SpicyThai because I wanted them to have a great time on their trips, and I know SpicyThai helps make that happen. Staying here was the highlight of my trip and I don't think I would have had half as good of a time without being apart of the Spicy-family. Keep it Spicy!

I planned on staying 3 nights, I ended up extending for 6; that's how much I loved it Perfect for solo travellers, the layout of the hostel is made as such that you are pretty much guaranteed to make friends. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the vibe is great; overall favourite hostel I've come across in Thailand! The beds aren't the comfiest, but for the overall experience, it's a minor detail!

The rooms are quite small and packed together but hey have lots of showers and toilets. The showers were all cold when I was there. They have a big common area with lots of books and a tonne of movies to watch. They sell beer very cheaply and organise an activity every night. The only negative is that it's quite a walk to the main square of chiang mai and far from the main bar area.
