Yes, it's inexpensive. And yes, it's off the beaten path of Sukumvit Soi 22, well away from the massage parlors and street side bars with the typical ebb and flow of Bangkok night life. But nearly every aspect in this architecturally delightful but sadly decomposing building is desperately in need of attention. Threadbare carpets, rickety light fixtures, creaky furniture, aging... Tucked away just off Soi 22 is this little gem. Consisting of two buildings a newer modern building which i stayed in on my first trip (90sqm apartment with kitchen and lounge plus 2 huge rooms with balcony and en suite) was rather impressive. The second a older building which i stayed in a studio apartment which i found to... More

My daughter and I stayed at House by the Pond on and off for a period of two weeks. When we arrived, we were struck by the charm of this gem of a hideaway in central Bangkok. We each had a comfortable, air conditioned and well appointed suite. Room service is available and the management would call a car if... More

A nice place if you're going to stay a while, in that it's a cheap and cheerful roof over your head. The decor is straight out of the 1970s, and may be original pieces. We found that the rooms were not cleaned to a high standard, the wifi was intermittent (at best), and the kitchen was almost unusable. (The knobs... More

House by the Pond caters to the discerning traveler who values peace & privacy. The apartments are airy, well-kept, and spacious. The neighborhood is largely upscale residential - perfect for morning runs. On your time off, you can relax on the beautiful rooftop setup that comes with a pool and amazing 360 views of the city. Definitely heading back there... More

Coming for a quick vacation from work in India, the House on the Pond provided the perfect sanctuary for rest and relaxation while being close enough to enjoy the sights of Bangkok. The beds were comfortable, with more amenities than I have seen in many a foreign hotel. The kitchen and living room, with central AC and TV that serves... More

We stayed at House on the Pond for a couple of nights while doing day and short overnight trips from Bangkok. It was such a great place to come back to after a couple of days traveling. We stayed in a great room on the first floor, with a little deck out into the garden. The room was clean, comfortable,... More

++ Location and Transport ++ I completely agree with the previous poster (wagreene) about location and transport. Surely there are enough hotels available that are closer to the BTS Skytrain, but I guess most times you will pay the price in terms of noise, pollution, and price. So just do it the Bangkok way and hop on a motorcycle taxi... More

House By the Pond could work as nicely as a hotel for some travelers, but I think it is especially well-suited for people like me: longer-term travelers looking for a nice, quiet and affordable place to settle in and get to know the city. It is located on a quiet backstreet in the heart of Bangkok's downtown Sukhumvit area, near... More
