The Sparkling Turtle is defiantly the best hostel i have used. It is very communal which is excellent for solo travelers to meet people. The turtle provides a warm, safe, comfortable environment! Defiantly recommended to everyone! More

the benefit of having only one backpackers hostel in a city is that all the fun people are under one roof. the common area of the sparkling turtle is huge and so you'll definitely meet everyone staying at the hostel over a beer or at breakfast for sure. if you're in kathmandu and looking for some interesting times...this is the... Travelling with my 14 year old daughter this hostel was an excellent choice with its warm, cosy and relaxed yet safe atmosphere. We felt like being part of the family rather than merely guests. Food was tasty, beds were comfortable and toilets clean, there was also hot water if one had patience to let water run for few minutes. The hostel... More

This is a review of the former location, although I'm sure it's applicable to the new one as well. While it's true that one can get their own room for the same price as a hostel bed in the Sparkling Turtle, I do believe you're getting a fantastic deal at this place. First off, the hostel is spotless and the... More

Quite simply, you can find better rooms for cheaper elsewhere. They have no generator, so you are often left in the dark. No hot water whatsoever, so if you plan on showering during your stay in Kathmandu, I suggest looking elsewhere. The staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is great. The staff are also a bit flaky and forgetful.... More

A little way out of Thamel (only 30mins walk or 5 mins in the taxi). Has a lovely terrace, great breakfast and the hostel is clean. The beds are a bit uncomfortable if you are staying several nights and there are no generators so once the power is off, there is no light (you'll need to carry your torch with... More

There arent that many reviews of this hostel, so i was a little bit worried at first. However, the hostel proved to be great. The staff are nice, the hostel is clean. The location is far away from the tourist ghetto, but it is a nice area of kathmandu, far away from the noise and the fuss of central kathmandu.... More

If you want to get out of the huzzle and buzzle of Kathmandu centre (but still be close to it), if you want to breathe fresh air again, enjoy international cuisine at uneblieveable high level, talk to wonderful peaceful people, sleep in the cleanest rooms all over Nepal, look from your room directly to monkey temple, and be close to... Nepal was one of our last stops on our trip, and we didn't have high expectations for hostels after reading reviews for the ones in Kathmandu. We took a chance on the Sparkling Turtle, seeing as there were no reviews on the hostel at the time. We were not disappointed, not one bit! If you get a chance to have... More
