On this trip, I was traveling with my parents who are in their late-60s to spend the Easter vacation with them. We arrived in Thimphu straight from the Paro airport. The hotel was located in a busy location of the city and in a row of similar hotels. However, the street immediately in front is almost a cul-de-sac with a... More

This is perhaps the worst hotel that I've stayed in my entire life. I had read some bad comments already about the hotel, but we had to stay here since our business partner in Thimphu had booked us this hotel. On check-in, we enquired on the buffet breakfast, but the lady behind the reception said that there is none since... More

First impression when we arrived was that this hotel was'nt too bad. The room is "Ok", with heather and free internet. But the problem is the service. No warmth, no smile, they do not care about the service or you. Avoid the restaurant at all cost. Even the breakfast service was bad. We had to get the guide to come... More

We stayed (or attempted to stay) here on several occasions in autumn of 2011. Some of the earlier reviews are at odds with what we found there -- the rooms are decent sized, clean, and generally attractive with comfortable beds. Nights can be noisy, yes, but no worse than in any other place in Thimphu or Paro. But the hotel... More

The Dragon Roots is a solid, but perhaps not the best, mid-range choice for staying in Thimphu. There is an elevator (a rare feature in Bhutanese mid-range hotels) and many, though not all, of the rooms are equipped with a safe. In contrast with some of the other reviews listed here, I've always found the rooms to be absolutely clean... More

When you get excited by seeing screens on the windows then you know you've traveled a lot! This hotel is said to have the only elevator in Bhutan....maybe that's the only hotel elevator?? Anyway, the room was of adequate size, wood floors which creaked a bit so I'm not sure what the people in the room below us heard. The... More

I stayed double of nights in different rooms in 2occasions ,both unbelievable dirty and terrible experenice. The sheet pillow cases haven't been changed, smelly and covered by body hair, pubic hair etc. I asked them to send a clean sheet, but told too late to open the storage room. The hotel doesn't have free wifi. The second time I stayed... More

It is ironic that I am sitting in the room at Dragon Roots and using their free internet service to write this review. This is because I cannot sleep from all the noise around the Hotel. As most trips to Bhutan, the Hotel is arranged by your tour and they may not give you a choice. But if you can,... More

Well-located within Thimphu, near the center of the city. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Decent bathroom. Internet for a fee (1 dollar/ 15 minutes). Laundry for a fee. (1 shirt for 2 dollars). Four floors with elevator. Breakfast consists of rice porridge, sausage, eggs, toast, coffee, tea. Nothing too fancy, but is a suitable stay. More

I ate at the Hotel Dragon Roots restaurant when a friend of mine stayed at the hotel and had dinner arranged at the hotel through his tour guide. The food was very poor quality and not properly cooked. Most of the dishes we ordered were still raw and not seasoned at all (i.e. we ordered 'mushroom datshi' and received a... More
