Part of the shell of this building was once the colonial hotel on which its reputation rests. It's been extended and is now vast, including pools, tennis courts, a barbers, business centre (no computer access), and patisserie yet it feels eerily underpopulated by actual guests. Decor is endless reproduction old-master paintings, large chandeliers, somewhat plasticised chintzy furniture, tiled flooring and... More

Although very overpriced as a 5 star hotel, this 19th century building is a great place to experience the atmosphere of the British colonial era. Bathrooms are worn out and rooms are old fashioned, but it's completely clean and comfortable with functioning AC, friendly and effective service even upon arriving from the airport at 3am. Satellite TV carries major news... More

I stayed 5 night on a business trip. Excellent food although expensive, attentive and competent staff, nice swimming pool. And along the Blue Nile. Room was not clean with pubic hair from the previous guest still in the bathtub, carpet needed a god scrub. I had a front room initially which collects more dirt sand dust from the busy road... More

Kenya Airlines covered the cost of my stay at this hotel, after bumping me from their 4am flight. The outside of this hotel is impressive, and the dinner buffet is tasty. The location near to the Nile is good. The rooms are drab and need renovation. More

As a lover of historic hotels, I couldn't give the Grand (Holiday Villa) Khartoum a miss. It was better than expected. Admittedly, the hotel doesn't make sense for business travellers, who should opt for the Al Salam Rotana (international luxury with good atmosphere). Another alternative may be the Hilton, now called Coral (nice pool area). The biggest problem of the... More

I stayed at the hotel end of January 2008. The condition of the hotel is very poor. My room was dirty, service is horrible and slow. The price is high. There is no reason why somebody should choose this hotel. I won't stay there again. More

The hotel prides itself with its history. It seemed that Thomas Cook - the explorer (not the travel agent) - actually had its office here. Pity though, that did not transalte into something more interesting. Rooms are spacious and clean. Facility wise in this town is above par. The sporting facilities are useful if you need them. Food however is... More

Stayed there for a couple of nights. Looks nice from the outside, right on the south bank of the Blue Nile. Old decor, dark wood furniture and red carpets, make it a bit dull.... could well be the setting of Murder on the Nile... You expect Monsieur Poirot to appear around the corner anytime you walk along the corridors (a... More

The starting point is that this hotel is in Khartoum in the Sudan. A poor country which is war torn. It is not a place that is highly developed and hotel ratings must be taken accordingly. I stayed in this hotel for 10 days a couple of years ago and really liked it. The lobby is like something out of... More
