I spent 3 1/3 weeks at the Sleeping camel and was delighted with the cool atmosphere and the quiet garden with big old trees surrounding the building. A good place to exchange information with other travellers. Food is OK, - staff is always very friendly but not extremely fast. They do speak some English, which is not standard in West... More

Our arrival to Bamako couldn't be better, we got hit by the crazy Friday afternoon traffic jams and couple of hours later we finally found what we were looking for: Sleeping Camel. In case you are looking for it and asking people about it, it's wiser to ask for German Embassy, which is situated on the next lot. We were... More

I've neglected to doing my review during the time I was at this awesome venue. The Sleeping Camel was my base on and off for c.7 months whilst driving overland tours. The service I got was always friendly even though at times I was probably like part of the furniture. I didn't have to worry about our clients not getting... More

In 2010 we stayed 3 weeks in Mali and Burkina Faso organised by the Sleeping / Surfing Camel. The place is a perfect start to explore Mali. First we had 3 days having a little Bambara language introduction and a little drumming class in the Sleeping Camel. Then we explored Djenne, Mopti and the Niger river and hiking in Dogon... More

Brilliant place to stay if you are travelling through Mali for business or leisure. Very friendly atmosphere, with helpful staff fluent in French and English. The food is excellent and the location is perfect; just off the main road but 5 mins walk from restaurants, supermarkets and bars. Would recommend it to anyone!

It seemed like the logical choice since I heard about this place so often along the way. The location is convenient not far from the bridge across the river that takes you right into the city centre. It is a nice area of town. The property is walled and prior to being a hotel was used as an embassy. Accommodation... More

great location, relaxed atmosphere, service personnel is very helpful, meeting point for different kinds of travellers, also quite crazy ones (like a cyclist who rode alone from Germany - Spain - Marocco - Mauretania - Senegal - Mali), you can speak French and English as you like

We were on the first day of a two week Malian visit, and needed a good place to get acclimated to the country for a night before heading to our host's house. This was quite perfect - a comfortable, friendly, and clean atmosphere within close distance to downtown Bamako. The staff was very friendly and spoke good English, and gave... More

The Sleeping Camel is so great. The rooms are clean, the staff is super welcoming and the food is outstanding. Matt (the owner) really puts a great deal of effort on making the place as cozy as it can be. My only recommendation would be to bring your own pillow - or roll up a shirt because their pillows are... More

A wonderful place to base your journey to the explore the markets, sights, restaurants of Bamako. Matt and his staff are marvelous. Room 3 has the best shower in all of Mali :-{)). We so enjoyed the fireworks show over the river for New Years Eve. Thanks for a memorable night and stay at both ends of our visit to Mali.
