Spent 4 days at the Al-Kebir in 2010; a little austere & seen similar in Russia The front desk is a little like Fawlty Towers, the rooms are past their sell-by date & the housekeeping staff enter when they feel like it! Breakfast was a buffet affair; again the waiters weren't really coordinated ... Wifi doesn't work in the rooms,... More

It would almost be a shame to stay anywhere else in Tripoli. Not because it is any good. It's not. But because it is the Jamahariya's showcase state-run hotel, where it indulges clueless ideas of international standards on much the same lines as Soviet Intourist. Come to be watched not just to watch the delegations of Libyan-sponsored insurgencies and sports... More

This place is okay to stay if you are looking for a cheap place to stay where people are friendly but not everything works! I changed room three times for a variety of reasons, and not once did I have a room in which everything was okay. Hotel staff are friendly though and try and sort things out as soon... More

the person who wrote the ' this hotel is a sad reflection review had it spot on. The hotel is not clean, toe nail clippings in the room for 5 days (not mine) chipped sink rusty bath grubby shower curtain, tooth pick on the corridor carpet for 5 days. I've stayed in some shockers- continental in bucarest, pegasus reef in... More

Do not stay at this hotel - not unless you want to face lying, cheating, rude, prejudice and iditoic people all day. Don't be tempted by the other reviews which say it depends on level of "fussiness", no one sane could tolerate this hotel, It is truly sad because if you stay here you will leave Libya with a terrible... Where to begin. The restaurant stinks of rotten fish all the time. Staff specializes in rudeness and apathy (When will the business center open? "It will open" with rolling eyes). The lunch and dinner buffets are really expensive. Breakfast has watery eggs dumped like cattle fodder, and water bottles come at a premium, so stock up on that. Also, invest... More

Had a booking confirmed (through travel agency), Hotel Voucher, Credit Card already charged in advance, and came to Tripoli for an Exhibition. Once arrived, they said there is no reservation-goodbye-next in line please. Asked the general manager - wasn't there. Manager on Duty - neither. Somehow managed to find an emergency solution - not easy because hotels are not exactly... More

Okay, let's get the argument into perspective right away. If you're fussy, intollerant and not ready to adhere to Libyan standards -just stay away from this hotel. You can can simply fork out a tenfold of what you will pay here and book your stay at the superb Corinthia Bab Africa. I have stayed at the Grand on three or... More

Safe in room but no instructions once a member of our party found the instructions it was a hit or miss if it worked. Had to ask for towels on a few ocassions,... More

I quite enjoyed my 8 night stay at the Al Kebir. Instead of giving you a full description of my stay, I'll just relate some highlights. Room: In a nutshell, it was fairly clean, but old. For the money you pay, you can't really expect more. If I look past the minor stains here and there, (as well as the... More
