I was in the old medina of Tripoli yesterday and went for a visit to the Zumit Hotel. This hotel is located right by the famous Marcus Aurelius Arch and is very quaint...it was built way back in 1816. If you've ever stayed in a riad in Morocco, it had a similar feel to me of that. The walls were... More

This is a truly awful hotel! I have stayed in a few in Tripoli over he last 9 months and this is by far the worst. I was bringing my wife and 13 year old son over for a few days, and after reading reviews in Tripadvisor decided to visit to check out rooms. The hotel is in fact in... More

Like most travellers to Libya, I did extensive research on the web beforehand and took many cues from the Lonely Planet. Based on this we decided to “splurge” at the Zumit. On the positive side, the location is excellent especially if you are not interested in the new section of Tripoli and the souk is beside the hotel. The hotel... More

I booked this hotel from overseas based on the feedback from Tripadvisor, what a big mistake that was! The rooms are extremely over priced, small, dark and dingy, I slept terribly the first night as the bed sheets felt old and dirty and there was no covers on the pillows. The place just felt grotty. The miniature TV was not... More

Nice hotel, suitable for a short tourist stay. Rooms are small but nice, in Lybian style but with Air conditioning and Sat TV. Very good position, adjacent to the Roman Arch. Not recommended to business travellers: in the internal restaurant they play music until late in the night and this could be a problem if you have an important meeting... More

Zumit was rebuilt from a dilapidated merchant's house some 150 years old, right next to Arch of Marcus Aurelius in the medina (old town). Staff spoke good English and French as well as Arabic, and were exceptionally helpful and cheerful. Buffet breakfast was reasonable, far better than most Libyan hotels, and evening meals were fresh, good and tasty (ask for... More

I chose this Hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and based on the fact Tripoli has a very small selection of hotels. Unfortunately my experience was not a pleasant one. It is set in a noisy location due to the Mosque and alleyways that surround the hotel. I stayed in the hotel for one week and moved rooms 4 times in... More

Travelling with hard-to-please teenage boys can be hard work, but as soon as we arrived at the Zumit Hotel they were as spellbound as we were. The boys had the room next door to us, and each room was very traditional in style, with small windows through which you could hear children playing in the old medina and the muezzins... More

The Dar Zumit Hotel was excellent, staff friendly and obliging. Rooms on the small size but full of character with Sky TV to receive BBC World News. Eat at the restaurant opposite (Athar) and try the algarra ("stew in a jug"). For a drink ask for lemon juice with mint. The Medina is fascinating but the walking surface leaves a... More

The Zumit (also written as Dar Zumeet) is located next to the Roman arch of Marcus Aurelius in a lovely square in the Medina. This is a comfortable hotel built, unusually for Libya, in a traditional style. Most rooms face an interior courtyard and are clean and comfortable, albeit quite small. Two suites face the square, but otherwise most rooms... More
