The rooms:
* Lucky it was summer and we were 2 floors up - the window pane was only half there. The other one was held together with gaffa tape. Not good for temperature or security.
* Pillow was unusable, I used my jacket rolled in my scarf.
I don't mind a shared bathroom, but this one was laughable:

Addis ababa is funny, there are the sheraton hilton radison etc which are intternational standard and horrendously expensive. Then there are the Ethiopia Ghion Ras hotels which are mediocre but priced at a good level. And then there are places like the Taitu.
I stay here as the location is good. The food is superb and the staff are fine....

This hotel may have "character", but the new wings are just plain horrible. Granted they have cheap rooms (by international standard, not by domestic standard), but there's no excuse for no upkeep. The ceiling and walls are peely and moldy, the bed spread and carpet are worn and dirty. The bathroom has molds on the ceiling and walls and is...

Can't say enough about this place. Many interesting people coming through. The family that runs it is so kind, service oriented, and always open to suggestions to make the place better. I was there for a month and they helped me with an internet connection so I could work and even made an effort to connect me with other guests...

I booked rooms at Taitu, excited to revel in its history and fading grandeur. The problem is that it isn't just fading. It's crumbling to waste and the three nights we spent there were in grotty rooms that had no excuse to be so run down, even at about $30/night. I've stayed at plenty of hotels in that price range...

This hotel has all the Reviews- but it is hard to put my finger on this. My feeling is something like this:
"30-40 foot ceilings with wood floors, wood staircases, reeking of atmosphere from a previous century."
You just go there... And make your own mind up. Bear in mind the most expensive room is 30 us. So this cannot...

Being the oldest hotel in Ethiopia, Taitu hotel is still providing great services with amazingly cheap prices. Room prices start at 10$ when reserved through www.azebot.com which helped me to book with the hotel online at a discounted rate. The place is mainly suited for tourists. I saw people from various countries enjoying their stay in the hotel. I am...

Any imperfections of the place are well outweighed by the historical atmosphere. Family of friends were supposed to pick me up at the Bole airport for my 1:00 a.m. arrival. It didn't happen - somehow I purchased a SIM card - and Taitu had a room. It was certainly my good fortune. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and...

Great location at Piazza, the heart of Addis, a popular area.
We stayed at the frontside suite (50$) and our room was very spacious, and nice, ok, tv was not working, and the bathroom needed a facelift, (so do the most bathrooms there) still we loved the original furnishure, balcony and atmosphere.
They have a excellent restaurant, very cheap prices...
