I lived in Ethiopia for the better part of a year and whenever I went to the Simiens, I stayed at the lodge. The people are friendly, the rooms very nice and truly a treat in the rugged mountains. Although there were a few minor things amiss, the things they have accomplished with this lodge with SUCH an isolated African... More

We stayed 3 nights ...Great place & sceneries .Lodge is better than camping at a certain age!! Traveling in Ethiopia is not like in USA or Europe or Asia... It is East Africa at 3267 m altitude in a remote North part of Ethiopia the highest East Africa Mountains( not a vulcano as Kilimandjaro) & Mountains means certain constraints ...... More

In over four months in Africa, this was, by far, the worst place we stayed. It was also the most expensive. $80 p/n for two bunks in a dorm room. There were no curtains. The whole place smelled of damp. The toilets were filthy, the toilet doors were hanging off and the corridor was flooded. The food was inedible and... More

Simien Lodge was the most expensive place I have stayed in in Ethiopa, and the most disappointing: misleading information in the Addis Office, overpriced bad food, insects in the room, disappointing breakfast, unclean bathroom and not very special rooms. I wouldn't rate this place as totally inappropriate if it wasn't for the price. 160 USD a night is pretty steep... More

We had a very good stay in the Simien lodge despite the fact that we also had no electricity.....please keep in mind that this lodge is in a very remote location and that you are in Ethiopia. There were candles in the rooms and we had head lights with us. The lunch and the dinner were very good. The breakfast... More

We had arranged a 2 night stay here. On arrival we were told the electricity was temporarily out, not uncommon in Ethiopia, but would be back by 2pm.On our return from an afternoon excursion, this estimate had changed to 6 pm.Around this time we found out from our guide that the electricity had been out for 3 days, with little or... The Simien Lodge is a super comfortable option that provides all the basic creature comforts for those who otherwise wouldn't be able to spend much time in the Simien Mountains National Park. We were traveling independently in the area but didn't want to camp. Instead, we splurged to nights at Simien Lodge (it is a bit expensive). The rooms are... More

I stayed at this lodge for two nights just after Christmas. It's expensive (for Ethiopia, though I am sure many people pay similar prices in the West without raising objections) but the setting is fantastic and overall I was very impressed. Unlike many other reviewers, I thought the standard of service was high - from the guys who appeared from... More

The highest lodge in Africa - so they say. Not the best. But they try. As it is rather cold on more than 3200 m, they gave us a hot-water bottle on the 2nd night. Nice chimneys. Breakfast is absolutely not what you should expect at that price. But - the surrounding landscape is worth it. If you can choose... More

We have just returned from a fabulous trip to Ethiopia which included two nights at Simien Lodge. What an amazing setting, and what potential. But what appalling management and missed opportunity. 5 of us booked into three rooms, and between us had views of the carpark, solar panels and walls. Our shower emptied itself all over the bathroom floor every... More
