We stayed here for three months last year from Oct-Dec 2010 in the garden cottage. I was working at a local non-profit and this was the perfect place to set up base! John and Denise are really kind and generous people, and will do almost anything to help you enjoy your stay. They frequently took us to the local cafe for a morning break, and joined us with our evening BBQs and sundown beers on the patio. My wife also made good friends with the staff there. The cottage itself, has a bedroom, kitchen, and living area, which suited us perfectly. There is also a supermarket 5 mins walk down the road in Newlands, as well as a DVD rental store and many restaurants. The swimming pool makes for a great relief from the summer days. My mom and I stayed here for two nights last week - we needed a clean, comfortable spot with easy access for running around Harare and Thornhill was perfect. John is a very pleasant and accommodating host and made us feel very welcome. We stayed in the cottage on the property - lounge area with TV, kitchenette with essential tea and coffee!!, very comfortable bed with ensuite shower which all worked very well. You are given your own gate key so are able to come and go as you please which was very useful. The garden and buildings are very well maintained, you can really tell the place is cared for which is a good indication of how you will be looked after. It is winter at the moment so didn't have the opportunity to make use of the swimming pool - however this looks great for summer time! Breakfast is a really nyummy spread - perfect way to start your day and keep you going!! There is a lovely little bar for the evenings - if there is anything in particular that you like to drink you are welcome to take it along with you. Bessie is the friendly labrador who greets you on arrival. If you're needing a place to lay your head whilst in Harare I would definitely recommend Thornhill.…
