I stayed here during my 2 months in Xela and I’m SO happy I did. Any of my friends that saw the place agreed that is it by far the nicest place in Xela. There are (consistently) hot shower with great water pressure! (Believe me, this is a rarity around here). The place is clean and cozy and it really... More

Casa renaissance was easily the best place we stayed in guatemala. Right nearby the beautiful city center, the rooms are huge clean and beautiful and have down comforters. And so cheap! Definitely try to go to the markets to get food to make for dinner, very fun. Chill place. We hope to stay there again! More

I stayed here for 2 months at the end of winter, despite the cold nights outside, it was always warm inside. The people are so friendly and I met so many people. I found it easy to find my quiet space whenever needed, yet there was always someone to talk with, or go out with. Thijs and Amy are amazing,... More

This is a good value place. The hotel has lots of character and the owner is very friendly. The price is also very good. My main complaint is that the water was not hot and maybe not even warm. I like a hot shower in the morning and Casa Renaisance didn't have it in a room with a private bath.... More

We will check into the shower and get it seviced so it is up to the quality standarts of the other showers at Casa Renaissance since we do pride ourselves on hot showers. After the guesthouse we planned to stay at fell through in Xela, we came to Casa Renaissance based on the positive reviews on trip advisor. We could not have had a better place to stay. We were there for three nights over Christmas, and the communal atmosphere of Casa Renaissance really made our holiday special. Thijs and Amy cooked a... More

We stayed at Casa Renaissance for 4 nights and had the most wonderful time, the owner Thijs is a very kind and caring person and makes you feel right at home. The rooms are spacious, there are loads of blankets for those cold Xela nights and the kitchen/communal areas are well equipped and spotless. This is the perfect place to... More

Our room was a little cold but it was very spacious. The bed was fine, remember we are not talking about the Ritz here, this is a place for budget travelers. The bathroom area was tidy though it is as cold as outdoors. Amazing sitting room with huge tv, movies, cable, internet. A very safe atmosphere. More

Thanks to Thijs and Amy for making us feel like we were hanging out at home. This is a great space for anyone looking for an affordable, clean and comfortable stay in Xela. The rooms are large and well equipped for the cold Xela nights. The kitchen is big and well stocked. The bathrooms are clean and the showers are... More

The rooms are very spacious and clean, hot water is HOT, the place is quiet at night, so actually you can get a good sleep. Also the owner - Thijs is a great guy with whom you can have interesting conversations, and his dog Poepie is very cute and lovely. We really enjoyed our stay at CR, and recommend it... More

OK, I haven't stayed in every hotel in the country, so I can't quite guarantee that this is the best deal in Guatemala, but it was far and away the best deal (and best sleep) we had. We stayed 4 nights in November 2011. A century old building which Thijs has resurrected and refurbished, keeping its antique charm and adding... More
