Casa Dona Mercedes is a lovely and affordable place to stay in Xela. Although it is set up on the hostal model, with a large shared kitchen, Dona Mercedes has all private rooms. Some have private baths and some have shared baths. All are impeccably clean. The owner Michele and her son Rodrigo are delightul people. The only down side... More

If you are looking for a place to stay in Xela in the mid range this is a perfect place to stay! We are staying in a room with private bathroom. Its really clean, the beds are good (not very often you find that around here) and the shower is big with hot water. If you like cooking for yourself... More

This hostel is pricy compared to similar lodgings in the area, but we thought it was worth the extra money. Our room was big and clean with en-suite bathroom. This is actually the second hostel we looked at - the first we saw (ranked second on TripAdvisor) simply could not compare as far as basic facilities were concerned. The only... More

This place represented the best value for money on my whole trip to Guatemala. Single rooms with shared bath cost 90Q per night and rooms with private bath are (I think) 170Q. There is TV in the rooms, fast wifi, a guest kitchen, hot showers, a nice inside patio area downstairs and an upstairs terrace. All within 2 blocks of the Central Park!!... More

I stayed there for five weeks and this was by fart the best place I stayed on my trip. The owner is really nice and so is the staff. The place is very comfortable and clean, there's a well-equipped kitchen that everyone can use and my bed was really comfortable too. I looked at other places and didn't find anything... More

This hotel is cear the center of town, has nice rooms, a roofdeck, and in general a very nice place. The King and Queen is my favorite bar in town and just around the corner along with laundry service and the center of town just a few blocks away. Highly recommended. More

From our experience in June '09, here are a few things to consider if you plan to stay at Casa Dona Mercedes: Cleanliness: Fleas or bedbugs in the mattresses of our room gave us little itchy bites. We were too embarrassed to mention this, but fyi, our room was upstairs across from the laundry room. Price: We paid US$55 (prices... More

This 9 room guesthouse in the center of Zone 1 is well located near the Parque Central. There are numerous restaurants and bars nearby, many of which are quite good. The guesthouse is clean, safe and well run. The owner, Michelle, and her two employees are friendly and efficient. There is a kitchen shared by all the guests, but while... More

I just returned from a 6 week research trip to Xela and spent most of my time living at the Casa Dona Mercedes. Michelle, the proprietor; Mario, her adorable 12 year son; and Juan and Julio, the two employees, made my stay comfortable and just like home. It was a wonderful, warm, and friendly atmosphere. There is a fully equipped... More
