I enjoyed this hotel alot.I had an ocean view room, in the new part, with balconey.Beach towels are supplied, usual $20 deposit. Get them near the pool tables. This hotel dosnt have many of the fancy drinks, but as usual, the Cubsns know how to pour a good rum and coke.First time iI ever had the bartender just hand me the... Truly awful place. Stayed 2 nights - 2 nights too many!. Tired, run down, dirty room, rusty fittings, bathroom door did not close, shower stone cold.....etc,etc. As for the food: just looking at it makes you feel sick - the restaurant smells awful and looks awful. Only 1 buffet restaurant open - despite 3 restaurants being listed. Drinks served in... More

We had to stay in this hotel because the other options were unavailable. (It's not entirely clear whether they were unavailable because they were full, or because of some Cuban Government glitch.) Hotel Ancon is a remnant of the Soviet Union's overwhelming presence in Cuba from 1962 to 1989. It is a concrete bunker built along a beautiful beach. We... More

Hotel is clean. Beautiful beach. Very polite staff. Very close to Trinidad. Food was nice..not the best at least there was no stomach surprises. Fantastic drinks, gorgeous weather. I do recommend to pop in to one of the local ,,restaurants,,!! We've found one and we enjoyed a lobster every day ;)). We spent 5 days in this hotel and we... More

On reading the reviews about this hotel, they are so extreme that they could have been written about two entirely different hotels! Unfortunately we did not stay at a ‘Great Hotel with an Amazing Beach’ but ended up at the ‘Casa Soviet Russia’, which I must concur with al500’s comments (7th April review). Firstly there is definitely a ‘new side’... More

I really cant say anything negative about this resort. I have been twice and I will hopefully be returning late spring. The buffet always had plenty of choices, fresh fruits and vegetables. A variety of meats and a fabulous pasta bar. Service was always bang on and lots of smiling faces from the porters to the Reservations desk staff. The... More

For a 3 stars hotel it is very good. When I travel I don't expect a 5 stars resort when I pay for a 3 stars. The hotel is right on the beach and WOW what a beautiful beach; white powder sand and a very long one (I nerver saw the end of it on the left. There is beatiful... More

The hotel staff were skimming money from the hotel bank by no issuing receipts and taking 3 or 4 CUC for themselves saying the the excange rate was high. All lies. I saw employees steal the 60 CUC money for room upgrades for themselves. One of the lifegaurds was able to exchange CAD currency to CUC without a passport for... More

Soviet era garish concrete monstrosity. The utilitarian concrete corridors are peferctly designed as wind tunnels for even the slightest ocean breeze, the uneven rises on the stairs will catch out anyone having too many cuba libra's or mojitos, the all inclusive buffet was so inedible (even by Cuban standards) that our group decided enmasse to eat in Trinidad on our... This was a great base for visiting Trinidad, which is a beautiful little town and in terms of facilities it was definitely the cleanest, friendliest and most reliable of the hotels I stayed in Cuba. I’ll get the main bugbear out the way first, and it’s a personal thing. All inclusive. Not my thing. I had never stayed in one... More
