Had booked for a day trip, hoping to have a realxed explore, some lunch and then treat ourselves to an anniversary massage and soak in their baths. Our taxi ride both ways, we were obviously joined by locals who new the skipper and staff, and this seemed to mean that they could yell and swear and shout at each other... More

We spent three nights at Lochmara Lodge and enjoyed the escape from "civilization" tremendously. We did a bit of the Queen Charlotte Track and also enjoyed walking around the property. The meals were truly excellent. We learned a lot from the man who oversees the animal rescue sanctuary and appreciated the lodge's commitment to eco-tourism. It is a very relaxing,... More

From the moment you step foot on the boat to be transported 15 minutes across the sounds until the moments you leave this little paradise, you feel like being in another world. Although the room (Bellbird unit) was a little small it didn’t matter because there is so much else to do. From kayaks, hammocks scattered all over the property,... More

I have visited lochmara 3 times in the last 18 months on day visits. I just love the quirky art in the gardens and the wonderful atmosphere. This time we walked in from Te Mahia Saddle for an overnight stay. The unit we were in (unit one) had a stunning view. We had our own patio. The bed was comfortable... More

After reading the lodge's promotional materials we were so looking forward to our stay while trekking the Queen Charlotte Track. Unfortunately we were disappointed, rating this property 8 of the 9 we stayed in while in NZ for three weeks. While the location is lovely, and the accommodations adequate, the management and lodge property put a damper on our visit.... More

First impression, wonderful, great location, remote and welcoming. Unfortunately there are a few cupboards at the back of the more impressive rooms that face the water, I got one of those. Beds pushed hard against the Walls so that neighbours heard you when your arm hit the wall during the night along with the snoring! Breakfast did not come with... More

This is a tricky review. Lochmara is such a lovely spot and a very unique and quirky place, that I'm loathe to give it an average review. On balance though, it reflects our stay. We arrived on for the last night of our Queen Charlotte walk, meandering down through the pine forests above the resort and marveling at the wonderful... More

A 15 minute water taxi ride from Picton, Lochmara Lodge is in a beautiful location in the Queen Charlotte Sounds. The lodge rooms are quite basic but certainly clean and comfortable enough and an ok price for what you get. The restaurant is as others have commented the only place to eat once you're at the lodge and it's on... More

Despite a day of bad weather we had a great stay at Lochmara Lodge. We were there 2 nights and found our room to be basic, but very clean and perfectly situated to watch the bay. We even had a small kitchen. The food there was delicious. The meat and fish at dinner were top notch and the breakfasts were... More
