This old hotel has a nice ambiance and has been well maintained. Some cracks in the exterior are a reminder that quakes affect this region. A spacious clean bathroom and huge bed were a pleasant improvement on what is typical of pubs of this vintage. A bit overpriced at $130 but not out of step with the Christchurch area.

The two sisters(?) who run the place are a little stern at first, but with a little chatting warm up. Service was professional despite the hotel being in a rather rural, weekend get-away type of location, I have no complaints .

We stayed here 1 night (Dec. '09). I chose this hotel because we planned to do the Black Cat Dolphin swim. The Dolphin Swim didn't happen because of rough seas but the night in the hotel was good.
