We chose this hotel because of its central location in the older town of Pecs. Although in an all- pedestrian area, the taxi driver took us from the bus station to the back entrance of the hotel, which helped because of my husband's recent knee surgery. The restaurant and lobby of the hotel are elegant spaces. My most poignant memory... More

This place is so central, most things are just a walk away. It's clean, but in somewhat Hungarian fashion, lacking. The check in clerk was lacking in manners. The bathroom was lacking soap. Helpful advice was lacking. Room was clean and fine, albeit small. Breakfast was terrific, and included in the cost of the room.

We paid for a standard room but got stuck in an economy room. Brown smears on the towels, large stains on the chairs and curtains and a tap to flush the toilet instead of a cistern. The hotel was very empty and I understand why. Go there if you are looking for Soviet-style former grandeur.

The reviews had prepared me to expect small rooms. I'm fine with that. Yes, they are small by modern standards, but what, it's gonna kill you not to have 2000 square feet to sleep in? Surroundings are drop dead elegant. Service is quite good. Architecture is high Art Nouveau in all its glorious excess. Unless you're gigantically overweight or plan... More

The art nouveau reception, restaurant, and the beautiful auditorium in the second floor, all present an elegant, well maintained (or well renovated) area, interesting Moorish motifs in the reception ceiling, coloured glass roofed stairway to the beautiful auditorium (I think I heard the information that Franz Liszt played there). Locaion is a big hit, as it is almost on the... More

The hotel is at 100 meters from the central square of Pécs, in the middle of the no-cars area. With respect to the negative remarks about it that I have read here, it must have been restored quite recently, since I could detect no worn-out details. The hall, restaurant, common spaces and the so-called Dancing Hall have a great liberty... More

Wonderful art nouveau foyer giving the right ambience, we just stayed the night, but our room, although basic, was fine, the customer service and breakfast buffet were excellent and the hotel central and ideal to explore the city. Overall very impressed.

The Palatinus is one of those old line European hotel you expect great things of only to find it hasn't been maintained or upgraded to met today's expectation and standards for it's price range. The lobby is intriguing, but the rooms are both small and worn and badly in need of a basic redoing (paint especially). It's location remains it's... More

Negative aspects: -car access difficut, no parking areas nearby, expensive hotel parking - very small room (the standard one!); not very clean and extremely hot inside; if you go during summer you'll find it difficult to sleep: very hot, dreadful pillows, a lot of noise if you keep the window open; Positive aspects: - the staff: quite nice, - breakfast... Rooms were run down and very cramped. Sheets did not even cover the mattress. Furniture in bad shape. Very good location.
